plastic eng undercover

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Does anyone know if the plastic cover thats fitted under the eng is the same on any of the other Vw range, our local garage did not put back after service I was hoping this would give me more chance of finding a used one rather than just looking for a Skoda one

thanks in advance of any help offered

Not sure, but the diesel tray is larger than on the petrols. Some people on here run without them....

If your garage did not put it back after a service, I would be asking them for it back (or for them to cough up for a replacement  )

+1!!!!!

+2! They're not that cheap IIRC.

I've never had one from new.

I trashed mine a few weeks ago (left and right now held together with duct tape) but cant find any new or otherwise for a MK 1 octy TDI.

I know some people are running without and just keep an eye on the engine bay (they are just splash guards after all). Might need to check it more often now the crappy weather is starting.

If you or anyone else has any luck finding these parts please let me know.

I would try and fix it better than just using gaffer tape. Maybe some aluminium and a few pop-rivets might give it a fighting chance. That is how I fixed one of my side ones after the gf trashed it somehow. On the TDI they are also used to help stop/reduce the reflection of the engine noise off the road, to make the car sound a bit quieter, apparently.

The duct tape is doing a sterling job at the moment.

I was thinking about a bit of fibre glass on the unseen side just to hold it all together. (underside of the bumper is cracked as well so thought that might do the trick)

Obviously the more permanent fix would be to replace with new or used but they seem to be like rocking horse poo.

I have posted a begging thread about this before and even with the wealth of knowledge available on Briskoda this one seems to evade even the most knowledgable.

Oh well back to Google. There are only so many ways you can type in "octavia under engine splash guards/covers".

you could treat yourself to a metal sump guard instead...... call it an upgrade

True.

But SWMBO wants a new bathroom first.

Just out of sheer curiosity you understand how much and where from? :giggle:

Metal sump tray: Dealer (or from an ex-police Octy), and I think it needs some special mounting "studs" to be attached under the car, which is a dealer sort of thing.

If the garage did not re-fit it I would be asking some serious questions, what else have they forgotten to do :wonder: its a rather large piece after all! :o

mine decided it was going to leave the car while i was driving the other day, the only piece thats left and is any good is the middle bit. both right and left hand side are shot to s*&t, to be honest i was'nt bothered about replacing them with new items just for them to break again so i'll wait till some second hand ones come up.
