Another WTF is going on with insurance premiums topic!

Featured Replies

It seems insurance premiums are in turmoil and the prices I am getting for insurance renewals are stupid! Bearing in mind I am 32, married with kids, clean license, no claims and 11 yrs NCD driving an Octavia VRS 2.0T - Adrian Flux have quoted me £700 and Sky £450!! I wasn't happy when my renewal with Admiral came in at £340 but it appears this is a bargain compared to the specialists out there!

2 years ago I was driving a brand new jap performance car that was imported in to the country for me, it was group 20, only a handful in the country and was insured through SKY for the same amount they have just quoted me on a 4 year old VRS!!! Not their fault as they are only brokers but I bought the VRS to be a cheap family car

On the plus side Admiral do multicar and my garage is currently empty B)

Anyone else currently having problems?

Yep - Mrs renewal just came through for my old Bora - £530 for a 1.9tdi 130 highline that is 6 years old !

She is 27 with 9 years NCD no claims or convictions. She was only paying £400 last year. Got it down to £430 in the end through my partner scheme with IAM. Im only paying £450 for my brand new VRS with only 6 years NCD!

You've got it easy mate :giggle:

I'm 38, 7 years' NCB, and paying £500.

However, I do live in London, car's parked on street, etc., and have mods, which still don't make it anywhere near as valuable or desirable as the insurance companies like to bleat that it does when they raise the premium YET AGAIN, next year. My premium's risen directly in line with my years of NCB? WTF is that about? :S

It's all a massive con, made worse by bell-end idiots driving without insurance and/or just not being able to drive generally. There are far too many of them out there, which is why we get shafted every year. That, and the insurance companies taking the pi55 :(

SkyInsurance is a Briskoda.net Sponso and very good and you get more off for being a member.

Just got my quote in from them for under 400 with my mods as well

Its a well known fact that premiums have rocketed in the last 12 months, I am paying more than £500 for my Superb2 PD140 DSG. The reasons giving, are the increases in injury claims, and more uninsured drivers on the roads.

My SKY quote was with 20% briskoda discount!

Some of my friends work in insurance underwriting, not just answering the phones but building insurance systems. As such they are ideally placed to see which specific underwriting factors have adjusted, I'll be making enquiries next week.

I paid about ten quid less for my insurance this year, and that was with the same company.

I did notice that there weren't as many cheap options to pick from but at the end of the day you only really need one to be the right price.

I've had the same problem this year, me and the GF are both 27 with 5 & 6 years ncd. Last year me paid £400, quotes this year have been nearer £700!!! Thankfully I work for Aviva who are currently offering 2 months free + 30% staff discount and an online discount all of which brought my premiums down to £420 but i have protected ncd and the lowest XS offered this year for added protection against uninsured drivers.

worse its going to get, as the insurance prices go up more people will be tempted to drive without insurance. this country is a joke!

But with AMPR cameras the chances of getting caught are also much higher which will hopefully deter some.

Just used the two big comparison sites and the best is £382, just about everyone else came in cheaper than SKY and AF!

Running out of options here, looks like Admiral might get it again

If you do below average mileage tell them it knocks at least a further 10%

All my quotes are based upon 8k pa

32, 10 no claims, no convictions, no mods, etc. Renewal was nearly 300 more than last years price, up to nearly 800, plus a 3 page list of amendments to my policy (all in their favour).

And after adding legal cover, breakdown, etc. they were the cheapest!

Anyone else's policy get a nice big amendment list this year?

It's the same for everyone at the moment I think. When I was shopping round a month or so ago, one broker told me that premiums everywhere had gone up lately due mainly to 1) increased number of uninsured drivers on the road and 2) the massive number of personal injury claims being made these days. (One could rant about both of those (esp num 2!!) but I'll save it for now...!)

I'm 37, have 10 years no claims and after much shopping around got my premium down to about £540 (eSure)....most were much more expensive. Having a Manchester postcode is one of the biggest problems it seems....adds lots of ££'s to your premium!

I was seriously considering getting a stage 1 remap at Shark but of the few companies that would actually insure me with a remap, the cheapest was well over £1000. So....no remap for me! :'(

Not funny this , just had my renewal and its gone up £30, or about 10 % , thats a lot more than inflation is running.

For my Mk1 VRS

October 7th online quote: £760

October 14th online quote: £816

October 28th online quote: £945

October 29th online quote: £965

^ ^ ^ ^gobsmacked^ ^ ^ ^

I rang them up (premium choice) and tried to insure my car.... after 3 call backs later and a long wait i get ' have you ever been insured on this car before?' my answer is no as i ticked the box online saying bought 10/2010 lol

This resulted in my quote hitting £1700 because i had no previous experience being insured on a car with such a high level of power.

All this despite providing them with my Works insurance policy number (Jaguar Land Rover) where i have taken all the advanced driving training, including a recognised police Kraft 3day course. Ive had constant insurance for 2 years on the whole range spanning up to 550bhp SC unrestricted prototype Jags lol!

A month ago they accepted that even though i was a mechanic on the cars also, i was technically a proffesional driver, and had proffesional driver training and skillssuitable to meet their needs ...... and now because of all this insurance hike they wont accept it anymore because they just dont want your business lol!

45minute argument later after scaring him a little and taking down the employees details aswell and told him he will be getting my insurance cancelation letter probably followed by and investigation from the trades description act due to i bought my car based on his advertised prices which he has just doubled, regardless of previous agreed terms on the phone.

BUNCH OF £"%^

so im insured now for the 2nd cheapest i could find with Fluxdirect for £1200

insurance £760 to £1200 in less than 4 weeks....

My advice, if your renewal is coming up in the coming months... get your quotes now with a pre determined and agreed start date! cus theyre going up by a massive rate.

:):):) RANT OVER! :) :) :)

Although it might be annoying that your insurance has increased from £300 to £350, I think you should feel lucky your not under the age of 25 or so. I'm paying over £3000 a year on my VRS, 20 with no no claims :(.

Started driving when I was 18 but was on my moms insurance because I couldn't afford my own car so just used her car when she wasnt using it. Got a job though after leaving college which helped pay for things like stupidly overpriced insurance quotes, and my own car. :)
