Diagnostic machine

Featured Replies

A few of us have VAG Cars within family, im just looking into buying a cheap diagnostic machine

I need it to read codes and reset if necessary it would save a trip to the garage.

I dont have the money for vagcom just yet, can anybody recommend a cheap alternative that would work for the Fabia VRS please?

My budget is upto £30

Ebay diagnostic machine

beware mate having worked in the trade for several years not all diagnostic plug in tools work aswell as they claim.

Can anyone recommend this Ebay diagnostic machine, has anyone used one, if so what other functions can it do apart from what they advertise ?

I have the Gendan version of that one and it seems to work okay. I use it as an in-car tool for use when "out and about" - but have VAG-COM or VCDS at home as well. The Gendan one costs £40 delivered, as with any of these tools you will probably need to hunt out a "full" list of possible codes - but that is not too hard with the help of Google. VAG specific diagnostic tools seem to work okay on VAG cars which is more than be said for cheap "all marques" tools on some SAABs that are actually GM based as they and Ford seem to be taking for ever to comply with EOBD or OBD2 codes - well that is my experience anyway, both in using a friends "general" version of that sort of tool on his SAABs and me using VCDS on his SAABs (okay on the real SAABs but no good on GM based SAABs) and on modern Fords.

in my experience the cheap ones are rubbish, Ive vagcom and its the best ive used, If you cant afford it at the moment save up instead of wasting your money on the cheapy ones
