what bulbs

Featured Replies

hi there again may i ask if any of you know which bulbs you need that light up your speedo behind the dash as need to purchase some before i take the dashboard off ..... regards

You aint gonna like this.....

The warning lights are designed as LEDs and cannot be replaced

I think you'll need a new dash insert, unless you know someone who could replace the LED, or has a second hand dash insert.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

so as you quoted about the warning lights they all work fine but it seems as if every other light works except for the top right hand corner (basically the top of the speedo ) any ideas

The dash is a non- user serviceable unit. None of the LEDs can be replaced. If you want the dash lit up, you'll need a new dashpod. Sorry.

Carefull though as the dash insert holds a fault memory on a built-in chip. You'll also need your immobiliser reset too if you change it according to some stuff I've been reading :o

I'm sure Shark_90 or Tech1e wil be along soon to confirm/correct this, but swapping out the dashpod is a relatively straightforward thing to do if you have the correct replacement part, a copy of VCDS and the necessary information.

You need the SKC code from the plastic keyfob (or get Shark_90 to read it for you) and then you pull off the trim panel, undo the two Torq screws and pull hard (Shark_90 uses a "special" tool to move it a bit first) and then it's two connectors and it's out.

Put the new dashpod in, hook up your copy of VCDS and then follow the instructions in ELSAWin about transferring all the settings into the new dashpod. There are a lot of these, of which the mileage is probably the least important in terms of getting the car started.

You then need to match your keys to the new dashpod and you're pretty much home and away.

Skoda charge 1 hours labour to do it, and a new dash is between £300 and £750 depending on the model and whether it's standard, MFD or Maxidot. I'd suspect the cheaper end for this car.

The good news is there is a guy in Yarmouth who can repair the panel for you for about £35, although you will have to be without the car and/or panel for a day or two.
