Really smokey VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a VRS (remapped to 170bhp by previous owner). All seems to run well and smoothly, but kicks out a a lot of smoke when I accelerate hard. I've fitted the PD160 air intake which doesn't seem to have helped much. People has suggested upgrading the air filter - would this help?

Does anyone have any ideas to reduce the smoke? It doesn't seem to be affecting performance, and I know diesels will always kick out a little of the black stuff, but mine seems to be quite a large amount.

Thanks in advance.

Any suggestions of a good air filter?

On a more serious note, have you noticed it being down on a power at all, or has it been like it since purchase? Just thinking out loud you might have a small boost leak?

Is it thick black smoke like soot? or does it have a blue colour to it?

As said above check the boost pipes. All the connections seemed to leak a little on mine so you may have a slight leak, this would mean there will be more smoke.

You want to Reduce Smoke? Nah!

Water meth injection

Water meth injection

Dont know why, but this just reminded me of Lee Mack when he refers to his nan saying "Angel Delight" at any opportunity - and I know what you're saying is relevant but just made me chuckle to myself, cos it was like "Water Meth" at any opportunity.....passed the time for me a work lol.

Mines smokes under hard accelaration but not really thick - I was getting paranoid with it being my first diesel car but I think it's me just not used to leaving other road users in smoke when I pass

It's been like this since purchase so not able to tell

thick black

boost leak, new air filter required or a pants job made of the remap!

i use a pipercross air filter on mine

Any of the aftermarket filters would do, All much of a muchness, A case of keeping them clean and not over oiling them!

Alternatively just replace the standard paper element filter annually
