Fresh Air?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2005 Skoda Octavia 2Lt diesel that I bought this summer and there appears to be a problem with the air conditioning. If I want fresh air from outside and I turn the blowers up high I hear a lot of noise of air blowing, but I feel no air. If the weather is damp then the car steams up. If I set the air conditioning to very cold I will feel air blowing and the steam will disperse.

If I turn the air conditioning to internal circulation I feel plenty of air blowing whatever temperature I set.

A likely cause, it would seem to me, is that the air filter bringing the air in from outside is blocked.

Do people agree, and if so, is there anywhere on the web to tell me where the air filter is and how to change it?

Many thanks,

Adam Smith.

Pretty certain the filter is downstream of the fan, so would be the same on either fresh air or recirc. Even so, the fact you get decent flow from the vents on recirc suggests it's a problem getting air in from outside, as you think yourself. My guess is that the plenum (the void at the bottom of the windscreen) is clogged, possibly with leaves.

It is below windscreen on passenger side where the wiper arms extrude , RobClubley a moderator will probably have posted up pics, he knows everything about the mark ones, send him a pm :thumbup:http://briskoda.net/forums/user/2744-robclubley/

Thanks, I am new to this website and I wasn't aware I had any replies. How do I go straight to my posts?

I have cleaned out the plenum and taken out the (relatively clean) air filter altogether and still the same: plenty of airflow on recirculation but just lots of noise when I try to bring it in from outside. Is there a baffle that could be stuck? Is this something a garage could pick up on with their electronic diagnosis?

I have some new information on this.

Just to remind everyone, when the aircon is set to circulate internally I feel it blowing, but when I want to bring air in from outside I hear a lot of noise but I feel no air blowing.

The plenum is not blocked with leaves and neither is the filter dirty.

But when I put the car into reverse I feel the air blowing! Has anyone ever heard anything like it? It sounds like a software problem.

When you put in reverse it automatically goes to recirculate so you do not suck up your own exhaust fumes. Did you pm Rob??

Thanks for that. I am not that familiar with this website. What does, "Did you pm Rob??" mean?

In post 5 I highlighted Robs name click on it then send him a private message < PM>

Haha far from everything! Still learning more all the time :)

Could be the motor that switches from recirc to open? I'll move this topic to the Octavia I forum and it should get more response.

Hi Adam,

As your car is a 2lt diesel, I assume that it is a Mk2, so you might be better off asking in the Mk2 Forum as someone over there might have had the same issue.
