Since I had my VRS dropped using Eibach lowering springs I just havent enjoyed it. Yep, the car handled better, cornered like it was on rails etc etc. But, as I do 400 miles a week on mainly motorways it was getting a bit tiresome and to be honest felt like I was being dragged on a spade.

Car had its 40,000 mile service today and I asked the garage (Pioneer of Cheltenham, I can highly recommend them) to put the original springs back on. Well, what a revelation! No crash n bash as I go over Cheltenhams pothole strewn streets. Just smooth driving.

Granted, cornering and setting off has suffered greatly but I'm not bothered. It must be that I'm getting older but I'd rather have fuzzy and soft than sharp and ragged.

Also, with standard 16" wheels I think it looks better higher.

So, anyone want a set of Eibachs?

I'm slowly putting the car back to standard as personally, it's better that way. Next to go is the super-pro lower engine steady.

I wanna go down low 60mm on collies :)

With so many aggressive speed bumps around these days and the memory of the snow from last year, I think there's a lot to be said for standard ride height.

Personally I feel the std set up has big crunch..... I was actually hoping the springs will give a better bounce/rebound.. (as-well as better handling etc).

Then again I drive round pot-holes and not go over them

I know this puts me in a minority, but I hate the look of extremely lowered cars.

Actually CJB, I'm with you on that.

Some look great but all I can think about now is "I bet they are suffering in there".

After this I won't mess with a car, well, not with the suspension anyway. I do have cupra bushes (recommended), lower engine steady (not recomended, too much vibration), PD160 intake (can't see what all the fuss is about), 9mm EGR gasket (MIL light keeps coming on when on long runs, needs drilling to 12mm), Awesome GTI remap (highly recommeded), uprated air filter (meh), Whiteline RARB (another must have).

I have falled in love with the car again now. It has it's original playful temprement back instead of being a caged wolf.

With you there. Slightly lowered is fine, but scrapping/ rubbing is too low IMO. I'm only 19, sound like a right old man! (No offense to older people!)

and i'm booked into Awesome next Tues for coilies with Shorter Drop links so I can have it MEGA LOW!!!!!!!!!

im 20 now and modded the nuts out my old 1.2 ibiza, was better looking than a cupra, as it had the whold cupra kit + extras, anyways i had it lowered 50 odd mm on spax springs and the ride was rough as.....i hated the ride quality, every bump knocked and dunted, the low profile tyres didnt help, but once i got th fabia i was sooo happy with the suspension quality, puts me off lowering it even though i do think it sits high

Maybe, you should have replaced the dampers with something suitable for use with lowering springs rather than ditch them altogether. Standard Fabia dampers and -40mm springs is never going to be a good idea. Eibach and FSD combination is good, but the Fabia will never handle 'well'.

LOL that would be 99% of this forum

i must admit that im getting a bit fed up of my coilovers,on the roads im currently travelling it feels a little TOO bumpy, im not as young i used to be but still like my cars to look good, but im paying the price a little at the minute emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

So it's not just me then who's put most of it back to stock :) I did a little review years back when I went from eibach dampers/springs back to oem. I've also got rid of a panel filter, pd160 intake, front upper/lower strut braces, rear strut brace etc etc even a remap lol.

Stock plus 312's (or just the callipers with 288's) and jabber rarb :)

I'm another who likes the standard approach apart from the cosmetic exterior looks. I think if a car is left as it is, surely it will last longer & less time spent in the garage being repaired. I'm 28 by the way, getting old very quick! :giggle:

I've owned my fabia nearly 3 weeks got it remapped to 180bhp got windows tinted yesterday - chrome grill surround will be getting sprayed black next week and possibly getting the wheels anthracite and getting a lcr splitter maybe lower it 40mm

That's it lol not much and all fairly cheap to do, happy with the power so not gonna waste cash on upping it

I'll take the superpro mount off you, how many miles has it been on for ?

... I asked the garage (Pioneer of Cheltenham, I can highly recommend them) ...

Cheltenham isn't in the north west as your profile suggests!

You have to bear in mind here that Cheltenham along with the rest of Gloucestershire suffers from very poorly maintained roads. I find the standard set-up poor never mind a lowered variant...

I can see where you are coming from. Personally, I couldn't get on with the wobbly original suspension. I'd have had to sell the car.

I think the car looks right with a more uniform gap around the wheelarch. I have no desire to lower it more. I've already scraped the undertray when parking 1/2 on a high kerb ( a very high kerb!).

Vindalow how low have u gone?

What was the cost of returning to original springs? Mine has eibach's which feel fine to me, however wife is less than impressed! Had this mod when I bought car. I presume original springs will be less harsh. Car does sound bad over speed bumps or unseen potholes. I think I'll return to standard, depending on cost.
