i know ive only had the car a short time but i love it!! all you seem to read on here is problems! surely these great little cars have no more real issues than any other marque....gets me worried about what ive bought reading all these scary posts!

Usually because people come on here to resolve problems, but not many post about "no worries in 12 months" :) Don't worry about it. ;)

You only post when you've a problem though!emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I try to only post if its a problem I can't solve or something good.

Never mentioned my £900 MOT bill :(

I've had trouble free motoring for years with my Fab...its only recently im having a few problems, and most of it is just wear and tear stuff....as said people dont generally post if theres no problems...

Yep VW's have the Leaky Door Carriers and self-destruct plastic window regulators too, but you get a badge that makes you look cool to all your mates :giggle:

Well I've recently bought another one after owning a vRS for nearly 6 years...

I know mine's not a vRS, but touch wood, the only issues mine's had are the leaky door carriers, and the rear wiper hose popped off (54-plate, came with all the bills).

Generally, forums tend to accentuate the negatives, and hide the positives. ;)

Even the youngest MK1's are now over 3 years old and the oldest are over 10 years old so it's not surprising to see lots of people asking questions about this or that being broken. I do think people have unrealistic expectations of these cars. They were budget cars when they were new and, to me anyway, most of them seem to survive the warranty period fine, and then they need to be maintained. No-one does maintenance anymore it seems. I took my vRS into Robinsons in Norwich with a badly scored brake disk on one side and actually refused to change it because it had plenty of 'meat' on it. They only fix things when they break. Well (touch wood) mine doesn't break because I maintain it.

If you treat it like a washing machine, one day you will find it full of water...

So Tom, don't ever ask us how to fix a problem with your car as it apparantly never goes wrong (Don't want negative comments on here, oh, no)

There are many posts in other parts of Briskoda about modding cars, how to look after it and general chit chat, have a look around the site a bit more.

or you can look at it as a positive and think if anything does go wrong at least you've plenty of people who have more than likely already experienced the same problem and find there help some kind of 'healing process' emoticon-0136-giggle.gif .....

if it makes a difference i have my fab vrs for 7 months now and ive only had to seal the rear door carriers and thats it.Its been easily the best car ive had for reliability and economy. You'll see that youve made a great choice mate!

Trouble free motoring for 12 months :D

Had my vrs for 2 years now and the only things that's needed replacing due to actually breaking is the glow plugs and a door switch that senses when the door is closed and other parts that have been replaced has just been wear and tear stuff like droplinks, suspension bushes, breaks etc

Other than my previous 2 cars that were brand new the vrs has by far been the most reliable car I've owned :)

All I've had so far is the leaky rear door carriers (easy DIY fix)...and the ECU had to be replaced :o Expensive, but even so, Ben at Shark Performance, who is a site sponsor here, saved me a fortune and got me back on the road very quickly.

The rest has either been due to maintenance (scheduled and preventative) and modifying... :)

This is 2nd Fabia, the 1st one had engine problems, the 2nd one I've only had to replace a wheel bearing and a front suspension bush

always nice to get a few sarcastic replies, at least a few people knew what i meant :) of course im the same as many in the way ill ask for advice on problems, my point was i was really impressed with the car and yet there are lots are people having seemingly very expensive problems! i was getting worried as to the reliabilty of the cars in general.

I`ll add some positive things to this thread as well.

The 1st Fabia was a 2002 1.4 MPi H/B. Driven from 42.000km to 79.000km in 1 year.

No problems at all, but engine was a bit weak when travelling 70+ mph.

So i got:

2nd Fabia Combi 1.9 TDI100 from new in 2006 now at 125.000km.

Brakes where a bit funny. No biggie, and was fixed with no problems.

It has been cheap to maintain, and drives very well.

Had an accident with it 3 years ago and it kept me safe. Side on impact at good speed, not a scratch!

I`m very happy with the car, and i`m still enjoying to drive it.

It has had a tuningsbox since 15.000km (~130bhp / 300nm) and havent missed a beat.

Have recently changed the bushes in the front wishbone to Cupra ones.

What a difference! Amazing value for money!

Don't worry, it's just me posting over and over again with new problems lol, but I got my car very cheap due to problems, the main problem being I think it's never had a proper service, guy was running it into the ground!! His statement of (10k ago the belt snapped, top end rebuild was carried out), I'm thinking it was on it's first belt rill 70k (miles)!!

But I'm working through the problems, and once fixed it will be a nice car, just needs some tlc to keep her going strong!!

My vRS just passed it's second MOT with no problems. Only things i've had go wrong with it are due to me and trying to get as much from it as i can. I expect the turbo to blow soon, i don't think 190+bhp on standard turbo is good B)

Nice! B)

perhaps i've missed some threads Phil, but what have you done to get 195bhp from a standard turbo???

I've got everything except a bigger turbo.

I'm a little confused. I clicked on the 195bhp link in your sig and it says 178bhp, which is still good for a standard turbo, but it's not 195bhp.

Has the car been modified since then?

yeah its had a new exhaust and seat sport fmic with all the piping done. It was rolling roaded at 195 straight after a new map, so may have settled down a bit now. We'll see on saturday at rs tuning on the briskoda rolling road day. I'd be happy to only be running 180 as i dont want a hybrid until after xmas haha
