Fitting sub / amp to mk1 octavia

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just looking for some advice really. I've heard the glovebox needs to come off completely to make it easier and all sorts of other things like this regarding stripping the interior. As I am probably the least practical person I know, I was just wondering really if people on here who may have done it before recommend paying someone to do it professionally? I really don't want to be the one pulling interior bits off my car, as easy as it may be for most people to do properly. I was also wondering what wiring people would recommend, as I am going to get that sorted soon.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Hmm, I think the glovebox coming out may make it easier, basically a power cable needs to be run from your battery to the back of the car, so it can go under your door trimmings, no interior needs to be pulled off. If you are unsure I would suggest taking it to a professional.

Even to run a sub, you are going to need

1) Power Cable - Battery to boot

2) RCA lead - Headunit to boot

3) Remote Power Switch wire - Headunit to boot

If you run the power lead through the car, the best option is down the left hand side of the car. You will need to remove the scuttle trays under the windscreen washers, the carpet in the passenger footwell will need to be pulled back plastic side trim removed, clover box out.

Ideally the RCA cable should not go down the same side as the power lead, as this can create problems.

This effectly means you need to pull up the drivers carpet and side trims too.

If you are planning to get a multichannel amp, and power the normal speakers too, you will have to take into account extra RCA cables, and speaker cable running from the boot into the doors.

TBH, once you've got the all the bits out I've mentioned, its not that difficult to take the seats and take the whole carpet and underlay out, making it much easier to fit wiring :giggle:

Its not rocket science, but it is a bit involved.

If you're unsure, get a quote from a fitter, and then decide if you can afford it, or whether you've got the time to DIY it.

Where is the grommet when you look under the scuttle trays though? can't seem to see it anywhere.

Thanks for the helpful post though mate :)

There are two grommetted holes you can consider. The first in hidden under the pollen filter, to the right hand side. This is directly in-line with the plastic cable duct that goes from the battery, and then up and under the airbox.

The second grommet hole is behind the pollen filter, to the left hand side.

If you are installing it yourself as mentioned above keep your power cables seperate from your RCA cables. Most of the plastic trim around the door comes up pretty easy, just take your time and route your cables, if you are routing multiple RCA cables, labelling both ends (if identical) can save you from tracing each RCA cable. :)

From my experience just keep them away from the RCA cables and any speaker wire (because of the interference) and if you have a audio shop locally, source the wire and fuses from there.

try not to pay for one of these overpiced halfordrama kits that cost something like £30 and the power wires for egsample are massivly to thick for what you want (and thats what probably bumps the price)

Go to the local shop:

1. its cheaper

2. better quality

3. get the wires cut the correct length so you havent got to find somehwere to stick excess wire
