possible dsg issue - now me!

It was fluttering like sharp idle, drop, idle, drop then silence.

m0bov, having read the thread, I have had the same happening to mine twice now. Didn't think much of it, but the symptoms are the same. Thanks for sharing this info. I think I will drop in to the garage at some point to get it checked. Mine has 6000 miles on the clock, March 2010 delivery.

Known issue, there is a revised clutch assembly, the fault is clutch creep for those that are interested.

Most interesting. Would you happen to know when this modified clutch assembly became effective from.

:'( Oh dear it looks like this might be more common. DSG should never stall, mine did it once only, they did a test and found the problem, dealer has been very good. I can only assume its very recent like maybe since Sept the revised part is out, mine is on back order with no ETA yet so that says something! I cannot find ANYTHING on the web so you read it hear first!

Get into your dealer ASAP and suggest they test for a faulty clutch pack.

Poor driving style, if you sit in D for prolonged periods, at traffic lights for example then even with the foot brake applied the clutches are still engaged slightly wearing away as you sit there. People say that they disengage when your foot is on the brake but this is not the case. To see what I mean, with your foot on the footbrake move the selector between and N and D and listen carefully, the revs drop slightly and there is a thunk as the drive is partially engaged (not fully, just a little), I always move to N if I know I am going to be there a while. The DSG is not a conventional auto, and I treat mine as if its a manual and so far have had no issues in 30K miles.

That isn't the case with mine. With my foot on the footbrake I can switch between D & N and feel no clunk. hear no sound and see no change in revs.

This could be oil drag in the wet clutch 6 speed DSG that you don't get on a dry clutch 7 speed DSG.

Oh dear indeed . . . mine stalled for the first time last week, thought may be the computer got it wrong? I'm 10 months in & 30k miles driven!

Is the general opinion contact your dealer????????

Ok guys, got the car back with replacement clutch pack and a free service. The problem is with the assembly of the box, the gears or something are not correctly lined up, anyway it changes a little smoother and should'nt stall now. Also the "grabbing" in Sport Mode seems to have gone.

All I can say is if yours is grabbing in sport or has stalled, get it into the dealers ASAP and ask them to check for clutch creep. Cheers.

Until a couple of years ago I was in the motor trade and since the DSG was first introduced we were hearing of issues and upgrades, if it wasn't clutches it was selectors or mechatronic units or ECUs and so on. Basically DSG is a 'work in progress'. It seems like as soon as VAG debug one version of the DSG they introduce a newer model and then set about sorting that out with modified parts and so on.

Its almost stalled again, two or three "blips" like hunting for a second or two, shift indicator flashed D1 to D twice and then it was fine. I still think its a sensor somewhere not DSG related.

On the older boxes I would have said that was a mechatronic unit fault. Not sure about these newer ones though - I guess yours is a dry clutch?

Wet clutch and they do want to change the 'mech next.

Fair enough...

Let us know how you get on. The MU's are usually built to the car's VIN in Germany and I have heard there is a backlog, with 4-8 weeks wait. Don't know how true this is so be interested to know how it plays out for you. There are still numerous MU failures on newish cars, even after all these years of DSG production. I have heard of some customers who've had three units in 30k miles.

The dealer is now playing the "no fault no code" routine. Its not worth the hassle of taking them to court at the moment is its so intermittant. I'd rather try and fix it myself, there are no fault codes and it idles/runs fine other than when it flutters. It did it today when I was coming to a stop and sliding it into P and it cut out.

I am thinking the MAF sensor might need cleaning? Does anyone have a deeper understanding of it? It must be fuel related, it resets perfectly ok.

Thanks.
