AP Turkey Sounds

Featured Replies

I had developed the well known AP coilover 'gobble' sound shortly after fitting the suspension, I'm 10 threads from the bottom at the front.

I initially suspected the drop links so replaced with shorter mondeo numbers (got them with the awesome voucher that i got from buying the coils so cost me about 4 quid inc VAT). While these have moved the arb away from the driveshaft considerably, the noise persisted.

Having read other threads on this problem, the main solution being a spring cover? I couldn't see how the coils touching would cause such a noise.

Last night I jacked up the car and got my head in the arch for some closer inspection. They seem to have rather large bump stops which fit very snugly around the damper rod, with the car sat on the road it must have been on or very near to the bump stops, the movement of the bump stops compressing and moving on the damper rod caused a squeaky/gobble noise.

Today I undid the damper from the top mount and top drop link nut and took out the bump stops. after cutting 1/2-3/4" he coming winter months B) .

A question I ask then is: all the people who have gone low and experienced the gobble sound, have you shortened your bump stops?

Gobble...... like a muffled metal on mettal wobble, i rolf harris could flex 5" thick sheet steel in a padded room sound?

Yeah, almost a metal on metal sound, but not quite. They creaked when bouncing on the bonnet, this sound muffled through the cabin sounds like turkeys are roosting inside your arches.

I heard Rolf could break a man's spine clean in two when applying wobble board style in self defence, you have been warned...

My car sounds like a demented mouse, your lucky

lol, im not sure about the turkey gobble noise but i am getting some kind of 'warble' or 'wobble' noise just at low speeds....

** trys to impersonate a turkey as he types, to check for similarities **

yeah, mine was only at low speeds too, cut a bit off your bump stops and see if it helps, my noise is totally gone now.

Medium to low speeds over bumps?

When turning?

Could be the top mount bearings

But i am going to say the sleeves

top 2 coils knocking together, resenation through the rest, externally 'twnaganganganaganagan' muffled you miss the 't' and get the 'gangaggnaggnaga'

yeah, mine was only at low speeds too, cut a bit off your bump stops and see if it helps, my noise is totally gone now.
