Blown Head Light

Featured Replies

A few weeks back I had the left Main head lamp go bust... (H7) bought a new genuine one from the dealer and replace it myself. Today, while driving back home the right one went bust!. emoticon-0124-worried.gif

The car is 4 months old, and I'm starting to wonder if it is an electrical problem or just plain bad luck.

What are these H7 bulbs supposed to last? Is this "normal"? Are there any longer lasting?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

They usually last a few years in normal use. Auto lights option would probably shorten that as switching them on may stress the filament coil. 4 months for two may just be very bad luck or very poor bulbs.

Bulbs tend to fail at more or less the same time, so the fact the right one went soon after the ledt would not concern me. I would be concerned if it was the same one you had already replaced but in his instance it was the other side.

Stick a voltmeter across the battery terminals and check your system voltage. Should be no higher than about 14.5V with engine rpm held at 2000rpm and all electrical loads switched off.

Out of curiosity, how long do Xenon headlights work? I tend to turn them on in the first sign of adverse weather, but I am curious as to how this will effect their life?

I assume they are OE? My last vRS had them; a lamp went at 70,000 miles, but was covered by warranty as was less than 2 years old

I tended to drive with them on all the time-I had auto lights & just left them switched on permanently! (Lazy)
