Steering Rack Boot

Featured Replies

How easy is ti to change n/s steering rack bootll. Just found a small nick in the rubber and have lost most of my oil any idea on oil quantity now required to refill?

Thanks for any replies.

Having to replace a steering boot is relatively easy, BUT the leak will require a new steering rack, as internal seals etc not replaceable.

The following 3 members are all quite correct, new steering rack is your only real option.

Just checked through 'HAYNES' manual, which confirms what the following 3 members state, SORRY.emoticon-0106-crying.gif

It'll still be leaking oil anyway, only the leak will be hidden by the boot. Been there, done that.

So is the solution to replace the entire rack?

When it happened to me (with next to no trade access to anything) I couldn't find any kits to replace the individual seals that had failed as they were within the rack (I think), so I had to replace it, or cover it up with a new boot and ignore the issue.

Opted for a new rack, got there on the third attempt. -_-
