Drivers door and water

Featured Replies

Hello!

Does anyone else have the same or similar problem, I park my Fabia 3 estate on a slope.

When it rains and I open the drivers door, it seems to empty a lot of water from the drain holes.

This only happens on the drivers door.

Apart from this the car has been brilliant, had it year now, done 8000 miles @ an average of 53mpg.

Cheers

Hi!

This is a very common issue and is to do with the seal on the door degrading/breaking up over time.

Have a search and i'm sure there is a fix on here too

I have the same and my car is a couple of months old. When I wash her I always wipe around the insides of the doors so I have to open all 4 doors and each one will drain water from the middle bottom of the door. At least it does drain so that's good, but isn't it normal for doors to have drain holes? There is no water getting into the car otherwise.

Enfield, Runboy, yep...completely normal. Some small amount of water gets past the window seal, you won't keep out all water at that seal, and that is not what it is designed to do anyway. It should only be a fairly small amount of water. The drain holes are there for a reason. Make sure the passenger door drain holes are clear of wax from the manufacturing process, and of course dirt too. This water thing should happen on that side too, but probably a bit less than on the drivers side as that window doesn't usually get used so much so the seal may be a bit tighter fit. There is no fix for this except replacing the window seal if it is letting in copious amounts of water. But this shouldn't need doing until the car is a few years old and the neoprene seal has hardened. One caveat on that is if the car has had any bodywork damage repaired the temperature in the ovens can cause the neoprene seals to harden and they will then let in a bit more water.
