Should i change to variable servicing - advice pls

Featured Replies

The octavia is coming up to its 20K service. To date it has been set for fixed servicing, but ive only been quoted an extra

Hmm...I seem to recall that it's possible for a car to go from variable to fixed servicing, but that it couldn't go from fixed to variable. Might be mistaken though...

Rob.

IIRC, they all come out of the factory filled with Longlife oil and set for variable servicing. From what I understand, the dealer can then decide at the PDI whether to leave it on variable or set it to fixed.

If this is the car's first service, then I think you'll be OK. However, if on a fixed service you had a lower grade of oil put in the car, I think the chances of going back to variable are limited.

There's an interesting document by VW that I have posted before that might help you with your decision: Clicky!

Thanks fen,

That's an interesting document. It says that all vws start of with long life oil (default). Is this true for skodas as well?

I bought my car with 15k, it had been serviced at 10k, but the variable service indicator on the trip didn't seem to be reset. It kept counting down for about the first month i had the car, until at about 17k it recomended a service.

I'm getting more confused by the day. i think i shall have to have another word with the dealer.

I think all Skoda's are filled with long life oil, I'm sure my vRS is. I opted for variable servicing, especially considering I've already cover 7k miles and only had the car since October!

If you bought the car with 15k miles and it had been serviced at 10k miles, why would the service indicator come on at 17k miles? That would indicate that it was still on variable wouldn't it?

If you do alot of miles then from what VW say variable is better.
