Driving down a single track lane this morning covered in leaves and Bang, the front wheel hits something. Stop the car to the sound of hissing. There is a big hole in the sidewall and my pocket will now be £128 lighter this afternoon.

Do the councils have no duty of care nowadays? I will be going down to take photo's later to try and claim as it is a storm drain that is hidden under the foot of leaves. The road is that bad you can't tell where the edge of the road is.

Also check whether this has been reported to the council as a hazzard, if it has you will have a strong case for claiming refund, if it hasnt, then they will say that they didnt know about it so reject a claim.

I've had this experience too-2 wheels & 2 tyres-6 months later got 50% back from council......pothole measured 5.5 inches deep might as well have driven up a kerb-no streetlights or road markings..... :swear:

Good luck & make sure you check your suspension too!

Except a stupid blonde bimbo relation ( by marriage ) of mine succesfully claimed off the Rds Service for skidding on ice and writing off her car.

Cos her hubby was in the Polis and as I understand got some of his mates in Traffic to intercede.

Long standing hazard etc etc, the water ran out of a hedge over the road. Then froze.

What was really annoying was that the stupid bitch ( & again she's a relation) drove this road every day and had to be aware of this long standing defect, not to mention the prolonged freezing conditions preceeding the accident.

Scheesh

I am aware that this is usually the case but Autumn has been this time of the year forever so they can't say that they don't know about the leaves on the road. The drain itself would not be a hazard if i knew where the edge of the road was! It is South Staffordshire council. They do zero maintenance like cutting verges and clearing leaves. Telford and Wolverhampton Council are always out with the road sweepers and lawn mowers. To add insult to injury when i cam into Telford this morning they were clearing all the footpaths of leaves!
