Removal of front central console storage unit

Featured Replies

I stupidly placed a credit card on top of the front central console storage unit (2009 Octavia 1.9Tdi Elegance Estate) which slid down the back when the compartment was opened.

Can anyone advise how to remove the lid or entire storage unit?

Thanks.

if its a credit card then you'd be better off just reporting it lost and getting it cancelled and a new one issued. Will reduce the chances of breaking something trying to retrieve it

Three clips at the bottom hold it in place -

Take care as the cable to the hazzard switch isn't very long...

Good luck in getting the card back

No Waiting - thanks for your prompt reply. My original post was a bit ambiguous - the "central console storage unit" which has eaten my card is the lower one immediately in front of the gear lever. It has a silver pop-up top and doubles as the ash tray in some Octavia variants (p96 of the Octavia Owners Manual v11.08).

I'm hoping your expertise also extends to how to remove this unit?

you could try popping off the stereo surround off and unscrewing the climate control panel (4 screws) and you should be able to reach in and find it (if you have small hands!)

Bad luck there mate, but don't fret, it should be a piece of cake to retrieve! Just open the ashtray cover, then gently lift the front of the gear stick gater surround. This will lift a centimetre or so, then pull it towards the front of the car, again gently, once this is released you will see 2 x torx screws T15 iirc, undo these and the whole ashtray/storage compartment should come out............volia, 1 x credit card! I hope. :giggle:

Pagey1255 - Ta for excellent instructions :) Card successfully retrieved together with an assortment of bits of paper & pins!

Moral of the story is NOT to place objects on top of the ashtray lid

Thanks
