Ok as you know i'm trading in the vRS and am currently in the process of removing the mods.

One of the mods is my colour coded grille surround. Now what i want to know is what is more appealing to you the buyer??? The colour coded surround that's been on the car for around three and a half years and is showing signs of wear and tear? or the original chrome grille ready to be resprayed any colour and that was only on the car for 8 months so is in good condition???

I can't decide so thought i'd throw it open to a poll. :)

***EDIT***

I think people are misunderstanding this poll entirely......

I have part-exed the vRS to the car dealership where i'm getting my new car from...... I'm taking off all my mods to sell separately..... One of the mods is the grille. What i want to know is would you prefer to buy A COLOUR CODED GRILLE WITH SIGNS OF WEAR AND TEAR or would you prefer to buy A CHROME GRILLE THAT WAS ONLY ON THE CAR FOR A FEW MONTHS.

Note this is to do with BUYING A GRILLE SURROUND and nothing to do with selling the car with or without a colour coded grille surround.

I just wanted opinions on whether people would be willing to buy a colour coded surround when it's starting to look tired. Also thought the chrome one would appeal to more as it is ready for respraying whatever colour they want it to be etc....

Cheers

Dave.

Probably leave the black one on, but say you have the original which can be put back on if necessary.

Someone who is quite keen will probably notice that the 8 month one hasn't been on the car, especially if the bonnet is heavily stone chipped (which, if the car is black, will look 10x worse!), so you'd probably have to say you had a modified grille on there.

Either way, I'd make sure you've got one to flog at the end of it, if you want the extra money of course.

Just to add this relates to the fact that i'm part-exing the car and not selling it to someone so this is a question regarding the grille surround on it's own and not attached to the car.

If there's more interest in buying the chrome grille i'll leave my black one on the car and if there's more interest in the black grille i'll put the original back on again before it goes.

Original. The car will then look original, as it's supposed to (in the eyes of a garage/PX).

You can then sell the sprayed one on, really easily.

IMO it depends on the mods list...if its the only mod then put it back to standard but if its lowered and you have tints etc then I think leave it as it compliments the rest of the work.

Agreed with this. If it's for a p/x then they will give you more for standard, but if it's really obviously modified then you may as well leave the black one on. I think there will be more interest in the chrome grille to be honest!

Please re-read the original post as you're misunderstanding what i'm asking...... This is to do with selling the grille surround ON IT'S OWN.... and which would be more appealing to a buyer the normal one or a colour coded one. The car has already been part-exed... Just waiting for my reg to be changed back before taking it in and collecting the new car.

I bought a used colour-coded (silver and black) grille surround which was looking pretty tired. The reason being, my car isn't a very common colour, and the chrome was removed from the grille already which makes prepping and painting a tad easier.

Sorry Dave, but I thought I'd understood the issue, on both counts. It goes back to the dealer looking as it should and you are then left with a grille that will sell on easily.

Even if someone decides they want to re-apply the Black Magic finish, it's easier to do that on the already coded one, than having to go through the chrome stripping steps on an original grille.

I thought you got it but you voted to sell the chrome one. :giggle:

Yep, guilty on that one - as I thought the poll was about which one the car should head for PX with!

The painted one might be easier to sell on privately, since all the donkey work has been done for someone who wants to colour-code it to their own car :)

as mines silver itd need painting anyway so i vote chrome [so i could paint it myself] emoticon-0148-yes.gif

ah stuff this............... just take it to the dealers without grill and sell em both....topic closed. :giggle:

I'll buy either off you mate, prefer the painted one so I cant strip it back easier, but failing that I'll have the chrome one and remove the chrome. How much do you want for it?

I'd buy neither off you Dave, for two reasons

a) because you're defecting to Lexus (with one of the cars anyway)

b) I haven't got a Fabia :giggle:

lol No more worrying about colour coded grille surrounds with the IS.

Hmmmmmm So you need to buy a fabia do you?????? I know where there's one going cheap..... And it's got a colour coded grille surround.

How much for the good chrome grill?? Mmy chrome is starting to flake so would be idea to finish removing it and paint! :-)

Sorry for the confusion! My bad!!

I would go for the chrome one, as it'd probably be in better nick than the one thats been on my car for 6 years!

Sounds like you might have sold it already anyway!!

I would leave the modded one on for the dealer to replace at their cost. The factory part in top condition should be easier to sell and prob worth more too :)
