HELP!

Featured Replies

any help would be grately appreciated,

just had a bloke come to view my car, and he looked throught the oil filler cap and said that there was a ball bearing missing, is this a problem? does it make the car not run properly? he also noticed that my temp gauge had abit of a fit and the fans didnt kick in..

if there is a problem, is it expensive and how can i fix it? a quick reply would be grately appreciated. cheers

I'd be suprised if there's meant to be a ball bearing in the oil filler cap!, surely if it fell into the engine it would cause massive damage? I have never noticed a ball bearing on my filler cap, does that mean mines missing too? lol ;)

The temp guage/fans is probably something simple like a sender, that's if there is a problem and the guy wasn't just pulling the wool.

it wasnt on the cap sorry he looked inside and down the back, and said that the oil was burning on the inside and causing the thing on the right hand side of the engine bay to over work.

Not familiar with the 1.8t, but that sounds a bit like cr@p to me. Not sure how looking through the oil filler cap you could see if it was burning oil on the inside, plus not really sure what is on the nearside of the engine bay

Did he offer you a knocked down price because of these "apparent" faults?

On the right? That's pretty much the battery and the airbox isn't it? :) Sounds a bit iffy. What happened with the temperature gauge? The fans don't always run, and can come on or switch off for a variety of reasons.

no didnt offer any money, walked away!! i meant on the left hand side sorry its a black box with a couple of pipes coming off, the ball bearing was suposably down through the oil cap to the back, not circulating the oil properly and causing pressure to drop.. apparently

I agree with the other posts here. At a guess, I'd say the guy who looked at your car was feeding you a load of bull. If you're doubtfull, take it to a dealer and get it checked.

He'll be on the phone in a couple of days, had a think and would be willing to offer £500 less than asking price, most people without a clue will think, spot on get rid of a problem when there's nothing acctually wrong.

I've not long had the rocker cover off and there's no ball bearings that I could see, so either mine's missing it too, or he's fed you a load of cobblers.

Bullsh*tting you big time.

lol that's brilliant. Ball bearing.. hmmmm! That would sound lovely of a bearing being in the oil filler cap. TAT TAT TAT TATTTATAT... bang.
