vRS Wishbone

Featured Replies

Hi there. Am real new on this forum although have been following a range of threads as a guest. Fantastic resource.

Having worked on a range of cars ove a number of years i am planning to replace Wishbone Bushes and BJ on the front of the vRS this w/e.

Can anyone tell me the Torque Settings for the F and R bushes, ARB bush brackets and BJ top and WB connection?

Cheers.

Erm I replaced both lower arms (with bushes as a whole) and didn't do to a torque :|

totally useless reply to you I know!

Erm indeed! You might want to get back under there and torque them up properly then! They are kinda critical, and the 2 main mounting bolts are stretch bolts. It's a big torque iirc, something like 70 or 90Nm, so not something you will easily achieve with a spanner.

All the torques are outlined in the Haynes manual, and you may even find some floating about on here. The official Skoda workshop manual also has them...

Welcome to the forum Sam, hope you enjoy the car

Was done up with air gun, I don't have a Haynes manual for the Octy! Was over a year ago now so can't remember if came with new bolts (and being strech bolts surely would need new ones then) got a torque wrench at home, will check them when get a chance just to make sure

Right, so:

ARB clamp bolts = 25Nm

Wishbone pivot/mounting bolts (front and rear) = 70Nm + 90degrees

Balljoint to wishbone bolts = 20Nm + 90 degrees

Balljoint nut = 45Nm

Thanks for the helpful replies. The vRS i have is silver and I have had it for 4 years. It has just reached 100k and still shoots off from the lights like a rocket (Mrs Eagle has 6 points to prove it :-)) Stretch Bolts are on order and have torque and angle tightening gizmo so am now sorted. Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks - what a welcoming forum.

No problemo!

Here is my thread with lots of photos from when I replaced my wishbones and balljoints: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/133212-front-suspension-refresh-photos/page__p__1670288__fromsearch__1entry1670288

Should be of some help. It's an easy job if you're prepared!

Well, 6 hours later and it is done. BJ's bushes and bolts replaced. Some great advice on here (special mention to Bodge) and from Letchworth Skoda. In the end taking out the front bushes was the hardest part. Fashioned a jig using a couple of sockets and some threaded rod to do them. Remarkably, no bloodied knuckles! Need two new front tyres, balance and tracking to make sure everything is set up OK. Best part is that the wheel wobble has gone except at 70+ (the balance and tracking might fix that). Then need to have a proper look at other parts to see what else needs doing now the beast is a 100. Next w/e is the ARB bushes as I could see that these are shot, today.

Well, visit to QF for new boots on the front and tracking. Bingo - no wobble in the steering. Took the vRS out for a push on the local bypass and not a twitch. Big grin on my face and looking fwd to doing the ARB bushes next w/e. Also plan to replace the top bush/bearings for each front shock.

Thanks again for the advice.
