Octavia DSG 4x4 announced (according to Auto Express)

Featured Replies

Just got this in an email from Auto Express.

Great news for me, as I cannot drive a manual for more than a few days at a time due to cartilege problms in my knee. It means I don't have to comrpomise on space with a Passat or A4 (way too big) or an A3 (tiny boot).

You can also get the Superb with the DSG and 4x4 in diesel now.

About time! always fancied an Octavia Scout but not with a manual 'box.

True, but as the OP said the Passat and A4 are too big I'm guessing the Superb will be waaay to big...

aye was in the dealers the other week and he said it will be coming to the octavia soon.

I have test driven a Passat Estate TDI with DSG recently and must say I wasn't that impressed. It felt a bit like driving one of those old DAFor Volvo 345 vario-matics (if you remember), it doesn't always feel quite in the right gear and downshifting is clunky at times.

Assuming that Skoda is now going to use the same system in the Scout; what are people's opinion on DSG on Octavia's and is it worth it?

I haven't driven a skoda with the dsg, but i have driven a seat with the dsg and found it amazing, really liked it, although i do prefer auto's and the dsg was the best ive driven, all we need now is a 170cr vrs 4x4.

You must have had a bad un! I also drove a Passat Estate 2.0TDi with 6 speed DSG and it was siky smooth.

My 1.8TSi has 7 speed DSG and that is likewise so smooth you can barely feel the change in higher gears and only feel a VERY slight lurch up and down between 1, 2 & 3 under light acceleration but even that is smoother than a manual.

DSG is fantastic and worth every penny - I would recommend it to anyone.

Me, too.

The only changes I'd make to a DSG box is a Winter mode, in lieu of the pretty useless Sport mode.

I've been impressed with my DSG. It's better than the BMW auto box I had beforehand (although that did 150k miles with no problem, so maybe I should reserve judgement).

+1

I think I have used sport mode only two or three times. If I want to drive sporty I just use a heavier foot. If I wanted to drive really sporty i would flick the gear lever to the left, and use up and down. Now I use the flappy paddles.

DSG is without doubt the best auto I have ever driven. I test drove a couple of Passats when I was looking to change last, and whilst it was a lovely car, very smooth and with as good a gearbox (I loved the electric handbrake) it was too big.

I think next time I will get a petrol version, as after 5 years of driving the hesitation of the TDI from rest is getting on my wick. It is OK if you are just tootling along, but if you are living up to the name of this website, then that initial lag can be very scary, until the power kicks in. The the torque of the TDi spins the wheels unless you are in dry and straight line. 4WD would spread the power. My brother in law has recently bought a 1.8 petrol DSG and it is FAST.

my uncle has the 1.8TSi DSG and I can say it is very rapid indeed, most likely quicker than my CR170.

As for the DSG, its a dream I love mine  ok the horror stories worry me at times but you know as with anything in life enjoy it now and worry about the rest later. The only thing I sometimes notice is around town it will change up a little early so for example it will change up to 5th at 30mph which can sometimes feel like it doesn't like it. Doesn't always do it though

They do change up very early if you are driving gently - not unusual to find yourself in 7th gear at 40mph with a meer 1300rpm on the clock. The slightest pressure on the throttle and it immediately and almost imperceptibly drops down 1 or 2 gears.

Any sign of this car yet?

Read this in Autocar too. I'm very happy with my current 4x4, its replacement will hopefully be a scout. Never driven by a DSG, but i do like the idea.

A4 way too big? It's smaller inside than the Octavia?
