fabia sdi loss of power

Featured Replies

Hi,

Thanks for any help in advance.

Last night I was driving home on a dual carriageway when the engine on my Fabia 1.9 SDi (02) became noisier than usual with an increased 'knocking'. I continued my journey as no dashboard warning lights were illuminated. I then started up a very long and steep hill which is when I realized the vehicle was suffering from a significant power loss. I crawled up the hill dropping to second gear near the top at 15-20mph with my accelerator flat against the floor. Once over the hill and on the flat I gradually picked up speed again, not because the issue was resolved but because on the flat I can gradually pick up speed. I made it home and left the vehicle overnight. In the morning the problem was still there and it has remained so it is a permanent not an intermittent issue. I have to hit high revs to avoid stalling when pulling away but still no warning lights or smoke etc, everything appears fine apart from the actual performance of the vehicle. I have changed the fuel filter because I let the fuel get low before re-fueling the other day. I thought there might be some dirt in the filter but this made no difference at all. It seems from what I can gather that maybe the fuel pump solenoid might be at fault? I would appreciate any help or thoughts, you not going to believe this but I'm using this car because my other is off the road with another problem! Help!

Thanks

It does sound like a fuel pump issue, but you need to be logical. Where is the knocking coming from (use a stick)? Test fuel pump pressure and then work from there. It might be easiest, and even cheapest, to go to a local independent diesel garage who'll have the test equipment and probably seen this problem before.
