Remap - do you get better MPG

Featured Replies

As title,

Just got my Fab vRS and will be commuting 65 miles a day on 60mph single carriageway roads, Should be steady,

Will a remap help Fuel consumption?

Thanks in advance

It does in theory, but I found I used a little more with my driving style. Depends if you can restrain yourself to drive very economically then it will save you a bit of fuel.

If your driving style doesn't change then theoretically yes, as said, but you might enjoy it and develop a lead foot :D

Best bang-for-buck modification you can do though, and as long as you go to someone who knows what they're doing, like the traders on here, then you'll be fine.

Mine's been about the same as standard, with a Dragon box, and remapped - although I can get 80+ mpg on the computer now if I stick to 63mph on the motorway, so if necessary I could get very good mileage...

You can ask for a remap thats is fuel efficient rather than outright power but you'll be looking at a custom remap, which is usually about £100 more than the straightforward remap.

Another advantage is the engine will seem smoother and quiter to drive. My first remap which was for more power gave the same MPG figures as before but if you boot it then the mpg suffers more than normal. Some of the tuners listed on Briskoda will give you what you want, phone them up and ask is the easiest way to get what you want.

As has already been said, if you put your foot down more because its mapped and it feels faster then no emoticon-0136-giggle.gifemoticon-0148-yes.gif

It'll take an awful long time to recover the cost of the re-map,

in fuel savings, I think it's best for you to drive economically if you can? (I know I can't, or want to.) LOLemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

When you take the insurance increase into account, I doubt you will see a saving

I found the MPG was better after the remap on my 1.9tdi (100bhp)

On the motorway I was getting 45mpg or so (never got more than 50mpg no matter how hard I tried), whereas now I can get upto 60mpg if I really drive carefully. 55pmg is about the norm for a fast 80ish long motorway run.

This also translates into more mileage per full tank, so I now for sure it's not just a computer error.

I've had the remap for almost a year now, I've done 20,000 miles on it, and the car's now on 94,000miles in total, everything seems tickety boo
