How to remove front headlight for replacement?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Are there anyone who knows how to remove one of the front headlights for replacement?

Do I have to remove the front bumper/front fender? Or is it simpler than that?

Kind regards,

martinz

No ideas out there? :)

What precisely do you mean by 'dismantle the headlight'? I don't know of any headlight of the last 20-odd years that you can pull apart!

I mean remove from the car.

One of my front headlight is no longer watertight, and must be replaced.

I haven't done so but to remove the headlight it appears that you need to remove the front bumper cover.

Is it a time-consuming/difficult job to remove the front bumper cover?

Probably not - just fiddly (I haven't done it on Roomster but have on plenty of other cars)

According to ElsaWin you do need to remove the front bumper skin to gain access to headlight fixings.

Looks like two screws inside each wheelarch and then a mixture of screws and reusable plastic rivets around the edges of the bumper moulding.

Not difficult (certainly not difficult on the rear bumper which I've done several times) but a bit time consuming. Have an old bit of carpet or similar to lay the bumper on after removal so you don't scratch it.

Disconnect any foglight wiring or headlight washing cables / pipes.

Three screws hold in each headlight unit.

Reassembly is simply the same process backwards.

Realign headlight for correct beam pattern.

Hope that helps.

Having now done it, I can say that it is a falrly major exercise. I needed to take both front wheels off (to get access to the inner guard liner screws) and it took about half an ahour to get to the point of removing a headlight. Would be much quicker a second time around!

Thanks for the update Julian :)
