Large difference bewteen ASZ and BLT?

Featured Replies

I know the BLT are meant to be 150 vs the ASZ 130...

But is this proven and is there really that much difference.

Boy racer and drag strip aside

Would there be much in the two?

ASZ has a longer 6th gear = higher top speed and better mpg

If you are not going to remap it, then get a BLT. If you are remapping it makes no difference as they both top out at about the same power and torque.

I think there are only a very few of the very earliest cars with the super-long 6th gear, but I'm willing to be corrected.

mine being one of them

P.S. autobahn was interesting when i was on my way back from the ring :o

Ah - OK - so how fast does it go in 6th then? I couldn't get more than 134mph out of mine. And that was downhill a bit ;)

lets face it what is going to be the difference between 10bhp... nothing at all

i'd rather have the ASZ so no engine stutter

had 143mph (GPS) which was more than enough for me it had some more left but i didnt plus i didnt want to kill the car as i still had a long drive home and it was alittle smokey out the back :dull: to say the least

Ahh fair enough. Just brought a 54 AZS and wondered.

Seen some peoples come out at 150+ standard? I know thy vary but thats gotta b generous rollers lol...

you can never trust rolllers anyway!

pretty sure most twiddle the settings so your 'happy' lol!

I thought that like about 99% of the stuttering cars had been corrected???

please stop quoting that error - the changes were many, many months (approx 20) apart

It's not just the 6th gear that changed...

Both are officially 130bhp. In practice it seems that both are usually somewhat more than that. Certainly Autocar's early test car was significantly quicker to 60mph than Skoda's claim.

Having had both ASZ and BLT engines I can't detect any difference between them. I also cannot detect any stutter with the latter - though admittedly mine's a late one and the problem should have been corrected by then in any case.

Excellent to hear.

Would have annoyed me to remap only to find it could have been 190 not 170 etc.

Thanks :)

What is this stutter that people keep going on about on BLT engines, i've never had any problems with mine.

no pd130 turbo will make much more than 170bhp its just too small

unless you hybrid it it may make 200 at a push

HERE'S the definitive guide

So its to do with the EGR valve, if you do the pikey mod wouldn't that get rid of the problem also gaining the benifits of less soot and smoke from the exhaust or am i wrong?

Some standard ASZ engines do have more than 130bhp. Superchips claim the standard engine has 138 BHP. My standard 04 vRS has 142 BHP and 250 lbft of torque. Skoda claim 130bhp and 230lbft..

Only if the gasket work has been carried out. Skoda dont view it as a fault, its a by product of emmision control. I drove a BLT today and the stutter was annoying to say the least.

Ah the stutter .............

Those were the days. I'd forgotten all about that

Stick a different size exhaust gasket in and problem solved.

Think it cost me £0.49 to sort out 2 years ago.

Little bit more than that, ordered two this week but you can only get them from SEAT now, 1.29 iirc.

I test drove a BLT (and borrowed it for a day) and owned an ASZ. Performance seemed the same, BLT had a slight stutter.
