Removing Wheel Nut Covers?

Featured Replies

So I got some mudflaps already to fit and decided that I'd take the back wheels off. No tool to get the pesky nut covers off :(

Dealer (80 miles away) says they will get me one, but they sure sounded like they will get me one "in there own time" like, anyone got any tips on what gets them off without damaging the wheel paint ? I need to get on with this job.

the tool for this looks like a pair of black plastic tweezers mine was in the small glove box to the right of the steering wheel about 3 in long.bill

They dont come from the factory with the covers on them they are fitted at the dealer. They come in a packet with the tweezers so it depends if the dealer/tech put it in your car, and where they put it.

I normally stick them in the toolkit.

There is a groove in the cap, get a piece of string about a foot long and work it into the groove and pull it out that way

Thinking of fitting mud flaps too, are they easy to fit? Phil. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I made a lasso tool out of string and a very thick straw, worked a treat. Not done flaps as my drive is way too wet for grovelling about on. I'll update this when I fit them though.

They look a doddle to fit after fitting some to my old Mondeo.

I keep a pair of pin nosed pliers (4'' jaws) with the extendable type of wheel bolt brace, sat under rubber mat in boot.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Mine was in with the spare wheel beside the jack and alloy key. Took all my wheels off the other week to apply Poorboy sealant, did the wife's Octavia too. Superb jacking points not that clear on the underside rim, just look for the small indendation in the plastic moudling.
