You may think me mad but

Featured Replies

As the post title suggests I've just agreed to sell PAT to James down at Allams before the end of this month. Fear not though I've not deserted the Monster cause as I'm joining the back of that very long queue for a new one :D

Appreciate with the winter weather almost upon us this might not be a good time to part with 4x4 capability and really on an ageing gracefully Fabia I HTP 54 with cheap Chinese all season tyres. However with the strong used market at the moment (particularly for TDI 4x4) I've not lost that much on the current Monster and I've also got a good deal for her replacement; thanks James :)

Did intend to go like for like with the addition of the heated windscreen and seats but I've ended up ordering the following Snow-Monster instead;

Yeti Elegance TDI CR 110 4x4 in Candy White & onyx leather, with the rough road pack, heated windscreen, TPM, 16" spare and Anna alloys.

Delivery hopefully in time for my summer holidays but which year is another question  So in the mean time I will have like the rest of the 'great unwashed' keep myself amused reading all your adventures :giggle:

Regards as always,

TP

shock horror.....but congrats on the new purchase to be

Definitely mad . . . mad as a hatter, no sorry . . . . mad as a plumber!! :giggle:

I think the wait will be harder for you as you've already "drunk from the holy grail", automotivily speaking.

Congratulations on the new Monster!! Sounds like a good choice with the 110 TDI.. A great engine if most of your driving is on normal roads and not motorways/autobahns.

YOU HAVE SOLD PAT  i thought TP and PATs relationship would last a few years.

Hope you will be as happy in the next one sounds nice. B)

you have a few months to think of a new name, all the best with the wait

regards Kevin

Thanks JonA,

not tried this engine but have driven the old Octavia II Combi 1.9TDI 105 4x4 and found the performance more than adequate for my needs. Hopefully this will be the case again, as most of my driving is on rural roads with only the occasional venture onto a duel carriageway.

Also going by the engine code it appears to be a detuned version of the current 140 motor and in the 4x4 there's 30 Nm more torque than the 4x2 version plus the 6 speed box :)

Must admit to not being a car with lots of toys person but paying that little bit extra for the top spec and dropping to the 110 seemed more sense than getting another SE 140 with lots of options, as I feel it's those options I've lost my money on not the basic car itself on this occasion.

Hi Kevin,

yes I'm a bit surprised with myself too; all started with a comment made by a salesman at the garage were I had the service done. Next thing I knew I was talking with James about used values, which in turn resulted in today's events.

Hopefully the new beast will step up to the mark and keep TP a happy Monster owner :) but I'll be very emoticon-0106-crying.gif to see PAT go and I hope James finds her a nice new home.

Regards,

TP

Well well TP. Who'd have though it. Mad as a hatter definitely, but Candy white is the way to go. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif. Not sure about the black interior though. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

My Candy White Elegance SM is due to be built the week after next, with the Gobi interior, and one or two extra's.

I bet James has already sold Pat. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Hi Mike,

will look forward to the pics in December then and just in time for xmas too B) Not even contemplating when our new one could turn up; next xmas the way the order book is going at the moment knowing my luck :giggle:

Surely with the Roomster moving that will reduce the waiting time?

Mike

Thinking about it TP, the Greenline sounds almost up your street. If only it had 4x4, sounds like it would be perfect - I seem to remember you like the moon alloys.

Mike

Hi again Mike,

Be more than happy if I could get her for 1st. March on an 11 plate. Hopefully this will be the case with the moving of Roomster and maybe being a 110 4x4 as well, this may make a favourable difference as I can't see there being a shortage of this engine; I've only ever seen a couple for sale both SE spec.

Like your suggestion re the Greenline , however I prefer the idea of the detuned 2ltr rather than a tuned up 1.6. The other drawback is the drop in ground clearance but your right love to be able to get a set of Moon alloys, my preferred choice of rim. Maybe now there coming to the UK I could replace the steels for winter use.

Regards,

TP

TP sad to hear of your loss, good friends are hard to replace, but glad to see you keeping the faith and joining the brotherhood of Candy White.

Just looked out of the window, my new one is sat there on the driveway in all it's splendour.

Life without the SM is going to be difficult, I think.

Hi Tim

Y'know, I am not overly surprised at your decision. I recall you telling us on the Welsh Adventure about the actual and eventual acquisition of PAT, and how you blazed a trail so to speak in owning her, with one or two or three or four niggly things needing corrected.

I also recall you and me discussing the correct colour for a SM, and how we agreed that Aero's white Monster looked the best on that day. It might have been due to the fact that he washed and waxed his within an inch of its life, and it really sparkled in the sunshine, at least until the dreaded dam dust settled!! White it was, we agreed!!

Well done Tim for taking advantage of the second-hand market to upgrade and improve things. You're a brave (and sensible) Plumber!

For goodness' sake don't desert this forum, as your encyclopaedic knowledge of all things YETI is of immense use to a great many of us ignoramuses.

Congratulations to The Plumber, and to James of Allams for their recent engagement!!

George

Tim,

What can i say?

Oh, I can just repeat that real Yetis are Candy White B)

Welcome to the club, now what's you gonna name her?

You are going to like the 16 inchers.

Hi Tim

I knew James was a pretty good salesman, but to part you from PAT with winter coming on in Yorkshire? Wow!

Hope you've got a shovel handy!

Hope you don't have too long a wait. Mine "might" arrive before the end of the year - one more towards the 2010 target - but it still seems like a long wait, and that's only from September.

Fred

Wow. I nearly fainted Tim! But a time like this with used values as they are won't come along again any time soon so I totally get this. Enjoy the wait!

With dealers cashing in on the huge waiting times by currently selling s/h cars which have up to 10K on them at new car prices I can understand someone selling so soon - providing the trade in price is equally as high?

BUT I don't think I would order ANY mainstream car knowing there is potentially a 6 month+ waiting list for it, so in that respect yes you are as mad as a hatter! :giggle:

[/quote ]So pleased we are not losing your expertise on the Yeti Tim, a valuable source of help to us and many others. We would have been very tempted to get the 110 2WD had they done it with DSG, which we have to have for arthritic reasons! Good luck with the wait. Jessica & Tony

Hi Agerbundsen,

the new beast is still on 17" 225/50 rim's and tyres; would have to opt for the new 1.6 TDI 2wd Greenline engine to get the ideal 16" monster wheels on an Elegance :S Therefore I decided to go with the factory option 17" Annapurna alloys as the standard 17" Spitzburgs are personally my least favoured rim design.

Be great if SUK gave us an option to select the smaller rim no matter which engine or trim level but sadly not :(

Regards,

TP

Are you saying that James does not have enough pull with SUK to force the 16"ers through? It's a no cost option in the rest of the EU. DK does not offer the Elegance for tax cost reasons, so we are all (all 100 or so of us) driving on 16" rubber.

To be honest I have not asked James whether this would be possible, some how though I doubt it from previous correspondences with SUK on the matter.

However with the Moon alloys now apparently coming to the UK with the Greenline engine and if I can recover from another car purchase raid on the bank :S :giggle: then I might treat the new beast to some Moons for winter use and flee bay the steels and there trim covers.

Hi Tim

If I'd known you were going to part with PAT I'd have made you an offer for your 16 inch steels and Nokians.

I've said to James on a couple of ocassions that I would prefer 16 inch alloys on my SE instead of 17 inch, but no joy. It will probably become an option after mine has been built!

Hi Fred,

didn't know myself that I would be saying goodbye to PAT until yesterday; sort of happened unexpectedly :D Yes it's a shame the timing was wrong as I would have been willing to look at letting the winters go, as they will be sat collecting dust now until next winter.

Regards,

TP

At £55 each is it possible to order 5 spare wheels with the new monster.......might be a cheap way of getting a complete set of winter wheels.

Don't suppose the dealer would entertain that, just playing devils advocate :giggle:
