Anyone stuck a spoiler on themselves?

Featured Replies

Because I have to stick my MS Design one on soon (piccie below to refresh memory of it unpainted) The spoiler came with a bag of bits and pieces, but everything is in German so I've not got a clue where to start. Anyone ever done this before. From what I can tell, its quite involved with some "roughing up" of both surfaces to be adhered to required, and application of two types of chemical (one being a cleaner I think, the other a glue?) :D

Yep, I've got an Evo 8 one on my shoulders :D

I'm trying hard not to take the p***, Jason, but I can't help it.

I've never stuck a spoiler on myself, but I've pinned a tail on a donkey!

Sorry.......

Phil, who has no self control........

Should look good with your rear bumper ;)

Sorry cant help with fitting.

Yep, we merriliy drilled into the back of Paul's 911... after Paul had merrily drilled into his leg...

We got it "almost" straight as well :D

Yeah I can't keep a secret so I wear hat marked *spoiler*

*spolier*

I normally forget before meeting somebody again, so secrets are actually safe...eh?

Now for the helpfull post...Now on my mine, the spoiler is big and fat, your looks quite thin. I didn't put mine on as it was on when I got it. However it's glued and screwed in place.

Mis-quote that :)

Problem is to "removed" it means I'd need a new tailgate as it's now been holed.

:finger: :P

You know me though. If I go into this little mod without the proper know-how the damn thing is gonna blow off my roof 100 yards down the road.

Helped someone fit one and it required drilling into the boot lid  Don't think we used any glue in the end, just some screws, and it's still on the car 3 years later ;)

Why not use Babelfish to provide a 'very' rough translation, or even go to your local chav den (Halfrauds or some other crap motor accessory shop) and just ask them. Or get one of those Max Power Haynes manuals from a library to see what they say.

unless the bottle is marked cleaner i tihkn you will find its harderner for the glue...

who is spraying it for you??

TBH you will be better off getting them to fit it as well, then atleast you have someone to screw at if it comes flying off !!

does it have screw fixing as well?

as a rule of thumb sand down the area to take off the gloss but not the paint...clean up with meths or simmilar.... mix two tubes togther slap some on body (of car) and some on spolier wait for a bt until mixture goes tacky then fix the spoiler into place wipeing away imdeiatly any excess glue... leave for 24hrs before moving car...

thats what id do...

Joel TBH I would fit the thing in the first place. My car don't go quick enough to feel the benefit of a spoiler :D

  on top of the spoiler you have already. You are beginning to live up to your forum name.

But is it straight :D

It is when the car is stationary - flaps about when it's moving though

No screw fixings - its perfectly smooth on all surfaces, so I think its low enough for glue only, and I've got no other existing spoiler there to worry about either. ;) Its a shame my Mum's in an unreachable part of India at the moment as she'd be the perfect translator. Carsten? If you read this drop us a PM and I'll try and dictate some German instructions to you to see if you can help? please? :D

Ahem, I'd best not mention anything about that.

DIY job???

Some peeps know about it, but I'd better not say. I just picked it up too, and its a proper job too, they've done.

I like the red led feature on the spoiler. Wired it up already Jason?

Painted and Fitted a MS Design Spoiler to my Mondeo a few years ago. After painting I roughed up the area on the spoiler to be glued. Positioned the spoiler on the car and marked its position. Roughed up the area on the car to be glued using some production paper (coarse sand paper). The tin with the liquid in is for cleaning down the areas to be glued. The glue with mine was a black mastic, applied to the spoiler and then fitted it to the car. Held it in place with masking tape and didn't drive the car for 24hrs and did not exceed 60mph for 48hrs :thumbdwn: Was still on the car 2 years and 35k miles l8r.
