Hi!

Featured Replies

Anyone who frequents the A66 or M6 may well have seen my Rallye Red Skoda Octavia.

A simple looking TDi 130 hatch.

Until I switch on the hidden strobes and go flying past ?

Don't worry, the strobes are green and I'm not going out to nick people, just trying to help them.

The car is Powerboxed (hence the reason you can't keep up)

The registration gives it all away: perhaps a prize for anyone who can identify this car from the description?

Anyway, Pagid Fast Road Discs and Pads,

Full emergency medical kit

last fast run saw 142mph come up on Sat Nav

siren plus PA for getting the slow people out of the outside lane of the M6 or A66 :D

Oh, and it's loads of fun to drive at high speed when trained!!

Welcome on board!!

Hello and Welcome:D

must be lots of fun with the green strobes:D

Stan... why does your profile say you drive a superb?

Is that green for a doctor emergency lights?

In answer to the questions:

1). Not sure why I have a superb under my profile: I'll try and master that one soon and get it sorted.

2). yes; green strobes are for emergency medical work.

Now I need to jump across to another thread and offer sincere apologies for an outburst yesterday: "MEMO TO SELF: Don't post after a fraught day at work with a few glasses of relaxing juice inside yourself!" DOH!! What a plonker (me) :o

Welcome! what does powerboxed do and mean

Welcome! what does powerboxed do and mean

Powerbox, provided by PSI, www.dieselchiptuning.com (I think the link is right) fits between the multipin connector going to the injector pump; it gives approx 25% hike in BHP and Torque when preset; apparently you can get more from it by moving a "jumper" in the box itself but I haven't been brave enough to try this yet.

Does it work? Erm, yes, Durham Constabulary have a speed camera picture of my car clocked at a shade over 135mph coming up a hill on the A66 (luckily I was on a call at the time or I'd be sitting at home twiddling thumbs without a driving licence at the moment

Seems like a great site: I'm learning loads (including when to keep opinions to myself ;-(

cheers for the welcome

You a First Response style volunteer Doc with A&E experience then?

Had a presentation from one from Leicestershire once, only he only gets a Disco or Freelander to play with I think.

Very interesting stuff, his account of the Kegworth air crash makes me always sit backwards on Trains, shame you dont have that option on a plane.

Jono

Hi there and welcome!

There is a red Passat 130 TDi performing a similar function to your Octy in my neck of the woods. I saw that one on a 'shout' the other day and it did seem to be going like stink :D Could it be 'power boxed' too?!!!

Quite a few of us own our vehicles: in my case I do this as a voluntary thing in my spare time; it's allegedly a way of "giving something back to the community", which is great, but you have to pay for everything, including medical kit, extra insurance etc; whoops that sounds like a gripe but it's not meant to be: I'll get the hang of using smilies soon so that people understand the sentiments behind the messages.

Re the Kegworth air crash, I'm glad you got something out of the presentation, it's great to know that the talks that we do can help people!

I made the mistake one night of giving a talk on my work to a "bikers" group and explained that everytime I go to a bike accident one of the things I always do is cut the straps clean off the helmet; this means it can never be used again. In amongst the props I use for my talks are two helmets; one that was in a crash once, relatively unscathed, just minor surface scratches (although ND Testing shows that it has a stress fracture running right through it!) and another helmet that was used twice: after one accident the biker decided just to use it again: that helmet is in "kit form" and consists of tens of pieces in a carrier bag: it was a fatal head injury accident........

Apparently bikers don't appreciate the idea of very expensive helmets being ruined by doctors and were very vocal about this.......that's one pub I won't be allowed back into :o

On a lighter note, I received some of my lectures from Prof Sid Watkins, he of F1 fame: what a hoot!! And a real mine of information!!

Anyway, let the others stick with BM's, Volvo's and Passats: I'll stick with the best of the bunch: my Octy :D

Thanks for the welcome aboard
