Cigarette Lighter

Featured Replies

Morning All,

I know it's only a small thing but I have a TomTom and I don't really like the power cable trailing all the way to the cigarette lighter next to the handbrake. Anyone moved theirs, put in another one or got any other bright ideas?

Cheers.

Take a feed off battery via some cable, (with low powered in-line fuse) you can stick connection in cabin almost anywhere.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I do think that Skoda put the lighter socket in the worst place they could for plugging anything into it, Sat Nav etc

go on ebay and get a connector that splits into two, the plug this into your normal socket, run the wiring under the centre section where the gear stick and handbrake is, Then have the double connector at the other end hiding behind the left hand side of the driver footwell (the flimsy plastic bit) then you can plug your tomtom cable in there and run it behind if you wish, as well as have a spare connector to power anything else. i use my other one to power a 12v usb connector, then connect my ipod cable to my iphone and charge that off the craddle whilst driving, theres just enough wire to come through the back of the slot below the radio. Works perfect :)

Hope you manage ok, Elliott

Go onto Ebay and buy one of the tom tom chargers which uses one of the empty slots in the fuse box......

Couldn't find any, any appropriate search terms or examples? I know wiring into VW fuseboxes is quite an easy task.

Regards the original post I remember seeing a picture where someone had placed a USB power socket by the driver's side air vent on the dash.

Buy an inlead Cigarette lighter socket (about 90p) wire to a twin red and black twin cable about 1 foot long. connect it to the glovebox light .You need to remove,or lower the glove box (about 15 mins to remove).Note it has to be the glovebox light supply, on the switch connections, not the bulb connections, which is disconnected when the glove box lid is shut. The light supply is fused at about 10 to 15 amp,and better still ,it goes off when the ignition key is removed, and is on the rest of the time,so you cannot flatten the battery. THe socket can be hidden in the glovebox . Haynes Manual has diagrams of the glovebox etc wiring.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys. I'll definitely be giving something a go this weekend.

Cheers.

I just bought that lead, I'll get someone to wire it up at some point, I also absolutely hate the long wire going right across the dash and steering wheel to reach my TomTom. If anyone has any decent suggestions on where to feed the lead to let us know. :)
