Need help fabia vRS

Featured Replies

My wife came to pick me up from work in it and when she arrived there was a very strong smell off diesel inside the car, bear in mind she had driven about a mile from home to work. I,ve had the car a week now and ive not noticed anything before today.

Is this normal with diesel cars or what??????

Or should i check with the dealer??????

Back to the dealer

Could be a diesel leak or fumes from the engine.

You are the first person I have seen on here reporting such a problem.

No, it's not usual for diesel cars. I assume you've checked that the fuel cap is fully on?

The fuel tank is under the rear seat. Tilt the rear seats up and have a look under the carpet that is beneath the seats to see if there's any sign of liquid or loose hoses around the tank fittings. Beyond that it could be a dealer job.

Being as there is a current recall for the PD fuel pump id take it in and get it looked at. The recall might not effect your car (it doesnt effect all PD's before you panic) but its certainly worth a look.

my car was registered on march 2nd 04, but i was told that it took atleast 6 - 8 weeks to ship from chez, i know cos i ordered one back in sept 03 and was told it would be here in the december of 2003, but i stupidly cancelled it.

I have read that the recall is on cars march - october so would my car come under this recall.

ive spoken to the dealer and he just said if it happens again to take it in, but as he drove it himself for a week before i put my deposit on it, and he did not smell anything during this time, im not overly concerned.

Thanks to all for your help any other comments gladly welcome

Would strongly advise to get it checked -- as Ross stated their is a group wide recall for PD engine fuel pumps - something to do with the type of bolt used to secure the casing - possible to allow a leak.

Something we are seeing a lot of with the PD engine cars is the fuel disepator(spelling??) leak's - this is basicaly a run of pipework that allows the fuel to be cooled before it goes back into the tank,as the high pressures and the fact the fuel runs inside the camcover to get to the injectors it gets very warm.

Both of the above can be very dangerous - both to you and other road users - if enough Diesel leaks you could end up losing control. But more importantly if you are leaking even a small amount of fuel this is very hazardous to motorcyclists and pedal cyclists.
