My boot opens!

Featured Replies

Right, this happened twice in the last few days.... I travel to work as normal, the road is quite bumpy and all of a sudden the warning comes up on the computer that my boot is open!

Now, I don't know if I just didn't close it properly or something, but seems odd that it happened twice in a week and never before.

I know from previous owner's experience (I have a Skoda bill for £200 in the service history) that on one occassion the boot jammed shut so the Skoda garage somehow broke into the car and fixed it.

Is this another design "feature" of the Superb, problems with boot locks. I am thinking about lubing it up a bit, but not sure if this will do anything good.

Anyone had either of these happen to them before? BTW my car is a 2002 in case someone has seen an age-related TSB!

Try new struts.

Only happened when I havent shut the boot properly TBH, which has happened more than once :o

Similair thing happened on a Focus I used to have, the catch bolts had become loose and the catch did not quite line up properly, might be worth checking.

Maybe I am getting weaker :giggle:

Previously it never happened...

Will slam the Czech girl harder

Another 15 year old VAG B5/5.5 problem is stiff boot lid hinges. Apparently modified hinges are available - I just apply very light oil to the pivots about once a month.

If the hinges get too stiff, the latch may not operate properly.

I've never had a car which has needed so much "nannying" to keep it running as properly.

rotodiesel.

You are not wrong there, best car i have ever had,but you have to keep on top of things to keep it running sweet, and am i glad i bought the AWX model.

Nannying is the word!

Let me think, during the 6 months of ownership (OK, just a download of expenses):

6 new glow plugs and a recon cylinder head (££ ouch ££).

Full set of pulleys, tensioners, belts, the lot, water pump, timing belt.

New auto box filter and oil.

Both CV boots.

Flooded battery compartment.

Brakes failed (servo - but got away with it).

Mismatched tyres so bought new set.

One interim service by myself.

One service by a local garage (recovered by AA twice after service due to misfitted o-ring on diesel filter!)

Driver's internal door handle replaced (excessive wear).

Lots of diesel fuel LOL

And now the boot hinge - will try lubing up as per recommendation above.

Such a lovely car, but all these nitty gritty little things (and some bigger things!!) all the time over the last 11k miles....

What next? Must be the alternator pulley or injection pump....
