ive been out today to get a top up bottle of oil, but can remember reading something about being careful about using the correct oil, the oil i have bought but not yet dropped in is castrol edge 0w-30 and states vw 502.00 and 505.00 on the rear, is this the correct oil.

check here...

I have the same engine on long life servicing, and was sold a bottle of Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow Longlife III 5w-30 (507 00) by my Skoda dealer for top ups.

yes it should be 507 spec 5w30 longlife

If it is of any help I have a unused 1 litre top up bottle that I bought from VW for my old passat which has the same engine code. If interested I will be listing this on the for sale thread this weekend. I'll confirm the oil spec in the ad. I'm not after much, it is now sitting in my garage and will not be used as I no longer have the car.

The price varies widely for the same basic spec VW507.00 oil. Paid £20 on the M1 recently for Castrol Edge in an emergency .But have got Havoline and Pennasol sitting at home which I paid £5 - £6 per litre. Think the Quantum oil is only slightly dearer at VW/Skoda dealers.

If your on fixed servicing you only need 505.01 for the BKD engine, should be a little cheaper than the long life stuff.

Thanks. Unaware there was a 'car accessory' place on that road.

you can get all genuine parts from there, if you can get it from a dealer you can get it from TPS
