Question about Yeti 4x4 140bhp DSG

Featured Replies

Hi - I have a Skoda Superb and am now trying to get my wife to want a Yeti. The model I'd like is the 140bhp diesel DSG. As we get quite a bit of snow and a 4x4 would be extremely useful.

Now the question is - does the DSG have all the same functionality as the manual 4x4?

Such as: Uphill Start Assist, Downhill assist, ABS offroad, ASR offroad and EDL offroad...

Is the DSG any good as a 4x4?

Thoughts opinions?

Cheers

Excellent. Thanks. That's some ammo for me to convince her ;-)

Hi,

To get all the off-road toys such as the off-road button as standard you would need the Elegance trim level otherwise it's an optioned SE.

Cool.. it has to be Elegance she will be jealous of the leather in my Superb otherwise... ;-)

Great choice. My Elegance 140 DSG is being made next week, just in time for Christmas....and trip up to Scotland, the land of Snow Monsters. Ok, land of hopefully lots of snow. Well, maybe not too much to stop me anyway.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Hope the wait is short rockhopper.

Yes the 140DSG is EXCELLENT, and you have the advantage of having a tiptronic gearbox too so u can use it like a manual

WELL worth having and Kitten LOVES it too except her BIGGEST problem is getting ME out of the drivers seat :giggle:

Hope the wait is short rockhopper.

Thanks Mac. Really looking forward to it. About a month to go now.

just to throw a spanner in the works.

You can now, and I don't know how long it's been available, buy a Superb estate CR140 4x4 DSG.

It will cost you less than the Yeti for the base model, but to get a similar spec to the elegance, looks like it will be about £4k more.

I might have considered the estate had it been available when I ordered my Yeti, but I don't need the extra space or length of the car, so will be more than perfectly happy with the higher driving position, possibly more ground clearance, but also the SM stands out in a crowd. I can't say that for the excellent Superb.

Yeti is definitely the right choice for me.

I have a Superb Estate, and my wife thinks it is too big really.. Would prefer the Yeti. Although I do think the Superb is excellent value and with extras the Yeti cost does add up.. :-P

When is the last time you saw a manual Range Rover? How many new Land Rover Discoveries do you think have manual gearboxes? emoticon-0140-rofl.gif And since the DSG has a manual override Tiptronic style gear change to the left of D you basically have a manual car anyway. So you have the best of both worlds!

The secondhand market would walk a million miles for a manual range rover/ big jag /bmw/ merc.I've never had a 10 year old manual/ clutch fail. Auto/ dsg at 10/15 years old........disaster :'(

The Tiptronic function - mentioned several times above, really works much better on the DSG than it ever did on the older VAG ordinary auto boxes, in my opinion. In an old Golf, I was always irritated that when using the Tiptronic function to knock down a gear or two for engine braking, its major advantage: it just would not respond immediately - in the way you needed it to. It was like the gearbox said ' OK, I register your desire to change down, I'll do it when I am good and ready, and when the revs are where I want them to be'. This was useless!

The DSG Tiptronic function works wonderfully - it responds instantly and provides excellent control - tap, tap, tap - into the roundabout, slip back to the right and accelerate away - sheer joy. It's also useful to use to hold the gear you are in when overtaking hard, and to avoid the box changing up too soon - a major drawback of older autos. Another thing - in the Yeti I seem to get better 'pull away' characteristics than I did in my last DSG 140 Golf - which had noticeable lag. Probably an engine thing, but the auto does prevent you easily keeping the revs up in readiness for dropping the clutch for a fast getaway. So the better Yeti performance is important there.

For me it was the availability of the DSG box that helped make the Yeti so attractive - and mine WILL go off-road. All my past Land Rover Experience driving - we used to hold regular client events at, usually, the LR facility near Ashford, Kent - confirmed for me the superiority of an auto, for ordinary folk, off-road. We got to drive RRs, Discos, Freelanders, Defenders and our own vehicles, with expert guidance, and under extreme conditions that most folk would not even consider feasible. And you didn't have to wash the car afterwards either! My fondness for Autos was in spite of having a brand new XS Defender TDI with all bells and whistles. But I would rather have had my mate's 50th Centenary V8 Auto version at that time! I am totally certain the Yeti will do everything I need it to, these days.

My concerns laid to rest ;-) - thanks!
