Can a diesel sound good ?

Featured Replies

Is there such a thing as a sporty back box to fit something like the Roomster ?

Obviouly a petrol car might be a bit more tunefull.......but is it really the case that we should keep our diesels silenced ? or is a sportier more vocal sound even possible ?

can you point me toward any suitable replacement rear silencer ?

Paul

In answer to the title no, even the lemans diesel cars do not sound sporty in the true sense. They are quiet in comparison to the petrol cars (lower revs) though there is more mechanical noise and a gruffness to them which I quite like. as well as the tarmac rippling torque, I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

paul2129 trying to make a YETI sound sporty seems like giving a cow a musket, it's anon-runner.emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Mine sounds rough as a badgers, but on boost it sounds good to me (for a diesel.....)

From outside

From inside

ours sounds ok, nice grumble on startup and shutdown and its got a low rumble when your driving.

Not mine... but think this sounds pretty sweet

Mine on a standard turbo ages ago!

My old non-pd diesel sounds like a panzer, especially so when it's cold!

The CR170 on my TT has a valve in the exhaust that makes it burble when you turn it off. I though t the car was broken when I first heard it, but it sounds pretty good to me.

My GTD Golf has something that makes the engine sound more interesting from a passenger perspective. I do not think that it changes the sound from out side though.
