Which Mobile Phone?

Featured Replies

Brother has just got the desire z (the one like a n97), i don't like touch screen phones but his is really quick and responsive and easy to use

...and I will ring Orange on Friday to see if they have the HD in stock. If not then I'll probably get it from a shop.

Re-read #14! :wall:

During my last 'upgrade' session I had 4 different phone types before I was satisfied with what I'd been given and I was able to do so ONLY because I'd done it all over the phone. Learn by other people's mistakes John.

Calm down :p , I'm just saying if they haven't got it in stock I may/probably go to a shop. Actually, how long did you keep each of the phones for, and what network you on? If they aren't in stock I could "try" some out until the HD is back in stock.

Ha ha.

I'm on VF and as long as you tell them you want to return the phone within 7 days then they will accept it back. You will invariably have it for longer as you'll have to await a freepost 'envelope' for sending it back in. It's not meant to be a 'trying out' sort of thing but if you find out any problems then at least you have that safeguard whereas getting direct from a shop offers less comeback.

If, when telling them you want to return also accept a different phone to 'evaluate', you should get a 'next day' courier exchange.

This should be a standard thing across all the networks John.

Don't forget the saying, "Act in haste, repent at leisure".

What the heck is VF. So what phones did you send back and what did you settle on. I'm going to ring them later on and see if I can upgrade a few days early. I'm not holding out though,

Cheers John.

Oh I wouldn't get a 24 month. It was always going to be an 18. I always went with 12's until everywhere stopped doing them.

All networks do 12 months if you ask.

I am going to definitely ask. I've been with them for a number of years now so hopefully that will work in my favour. It might not since when I rang to upgrade today they said to ring back on the 20th - at the earliest.

Any update John? Are you now the proud owner of a shiny new phone?

Almost. I rang on Saturday and the HD isn't in stock so they have put me on a "waiting list". They reckon I should have it within a week - they have received an order and were being "tested".

I did ask about 12 month contracts, they said they were available but there wasn't a whole lot of negotiating available in terms of packages or handset price. I went for a 18 months, Unlimited text, 1gb internet and 600 minutes for £27 p/m, Which isn't too far from what I have now for £40 p/m.

I'm going to give them till the end of the week and ring back if I haven't heard anything.

I really like the Desire HD and that is a good deal. T-Mobile offered me one with 900mins, 3Gb data and 500 texts for £30 on a 2 year contract (business user). The HTC Sense user interface is a really sweet thing to use, the screen is really nice and the phone has the usual Android 2.2 features. However, for me, I like the Dell Streak, so have just ordered one unlocked. Not quite as elegant a UI an the HTC Sense one, but once into the apps and browser, works just as well.

EDIT: I think the HD is selling as fast as they can make them, I know there was a waiting list for one on T-Mobile until Friday just gone. Reckon it will be worth the wait if you can.

I'm still waiting!!!!!!! I've been into every high street store and none of them can match, or get anywhere close so I'm definitely going to wait.

I've sold the Nokia now so I'm using SWMBO old LG and is primitive - hasn't even got WiFi

It’s here! It came yesterday - after over a month of waiting and ringing almost every week. I was on a back order list but last week I noticed on their website that they were in stock so rang on Friday. The woman said they have different stock, depending on where they are for and that back order hadn’t received stock! In the end she took me off the back order list and set me one from another list :S .

Anyway it's here and its a whole load better than the Nokia piece of sh*te I had.

I just need to figure out how to stop the aps Orange have installed from automatically running periodically during the day. I wouldn't mind trying to install 2.3 - if I can and that might stop it.

You need to come across to the Dark Side now John and get involved with rooting etc. That will stop it happening!

Yea 2.3 isn't available yet. What exactly is rooting and what does it involve. Is it like jail-breaking the iPhone?

I'm assuming it voids the warranty.

It's just like jail breaking but lets you customise it better. There are some programs that will do it all for you. I'll PM some links for you to have a look at.
