Which Mobile Phone?

Featured Replies

I'm due an upgrade on the 20th and I'm pretty much set ion the HTC Desire HD. However Simbo has suggested the Nokia N8.

Anyone have any recommendations, I don't fancy an iPhone so leave that out.

What about the SonyEricsson Xperia? there are like 3 or 4 models including a mini.

I would avoid the N8 like a rash

It's a jazzed version of the N97 which was a POS ( I had one )

I now run a Desire and the difference is night and day

My dad has an N8. He's just had to send it away for repair after only 2 months cos the lock button/slider keeps falling off!!! It really doesn't feel as well built as a Nokia phone usually does.

It's symbian software also seems to look and feel very dated to me now in comparison with iPhone and Android.

Cheers

Dave.

Simbo was originally going for a 'normal' Desire until he saw the N8. Some of the stuff it has does indeed look good but after reading some recent reviews, I think it needs a firmware update to bring it into line with the Desire.

I didn't want to be too controversial as he's got 24 months to find that out.

Oh dear .....I've just lived the longest 18 mths of my mobile life with a chunk of **** N97

I am neither a techie or high usage user, but my current Xperia X10 (black) is a huge leap forward in what i can do etc, over my old phone. I am never going to be doing car diagnostics, etc on my phone so the X10 provides more than enough. I just hope it is reliable. I heard a rumour I will be able to upgrade it to Android 2.1 soon.

I've had 2 N97's. The first was 3 months after getting it - the touch screen totally fooked. I had to take it to a Nokia repairer who took 10 days to decide a software update didn't fix the screen. They sent it direct to Nokia who then took another 2 weeks to send a replacement out.. Now my slider button fell off 4 weeks ago. Albeit its 12 months old now it still fell off which is ****. My brother has a N97 and his slider fell off within weeks of getting it and they blamed it on "wear and tear".

This is my experience exactly. What Desire do you have?

I was a 1st day 97er as well but it was an upgrade so had to carry my 3 months "roll over" months, which takes me til the 20th. It ties in nicely with the release of the HD and I will be in the shop next Sunday coming out with what seems to be a HD at the minute. If I wasn't working Saturday i would be in then. I can't wait to get rid it.

I wonder if they will repair the button - drafting an email to Nokia CS as we speak. Black OPS will have to wait.

I noticed its value has went from £123 to £96 over the past month on envirophone  otherwise it would have been sent there.

ONLY do upgrades over the phone or online to get the chance to return it if you don't like it.

I would but Orange didn't have the HD to upgrade over the phone the last time I rang. Although it is in their shops so I will try again on Sat.

I have just been on the Nokia site and the link to email them is broken... :wonder:

go for the hd, but get an 18 month contract. They DO still exist, but only via phone or instore at your networks branded store ;)

Theres no need to get stuffed with a 24 month contract

Oh I wouldn't get a 24 month. It was always going to be an 18. I always went with 12's until everywhere stopped doing them.

Tesco still does a 12 month mobile contract... As long as you don't mind piggy backing off the O2 network...

Tarts phone lol

And they are known to be unrealiable

Only if you want to settle for a **** phone, I had one for 8 months then sold it so I could buy an iPhone again, I'll never go back again.

Go for ANY Anderiod phone as long as it has version 2.1 or greater, otherwise you will have problems playing Angry Birds emoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Anything android!!

Desire HD if you want a ridiculously huuuge screen or the normal desire for sheer good phone-ness. I have had my Desire since it came out (a few months now) and love it more than the day I first got it.

The SE experia's are ok but build quality and phone updates and support not as good as HTC phones.

I think I'll go for the HD.

My N97 was in for repair today - I dropped it off and went back 2 hours later and it was done. Happy days. (Carphonewarehouse official repairer).

This will be on sale in the next couple of days and I will ring Orange on Friday to see if they have the HD in stock. If not then I'll probably get it from a shop.
