I've just been crashed into...

Featured Replies

As the title says really.

My poor Fabia now has a scuffed and dented driver's door and sill, a kerbed nearside wheel

and a bulging tyre.

I'd just washed it an hour beforehand too.

The guy that hit me said he wouldn't be going through his insurance and that my car wasn't really dammaged.

Cheeky sod.

I exchanged names, phone number and address but that's all.

I haven't been in this situation before so am a bit unsure what to do.

What happens next?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You find out that he as given you a false name, address and telephone number/ has no insurance (check http://www.askmid.com/ with his reg)

Seriously ring him up NOW and find out his insurance details, I am guessing that if you get quotes for the car repairing how YOU want it he will baulk and have a mate who can do it cheaper. Ideally you should have taken photos at the scene / witness statements etc.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, I am a cynic.

I would have asked for his insurance details if refused I'll call the police, how'd you know he ain't gave u duff details and the cars even registered to anyone ?

Report to your insurance company, it's a condition of your insurance. It is also a condition of his. I doubt he's going to dish out enough cash to fix this to an acceptable state, or suddenly he'll "have a mate who can fix it". Insurance is the only way, and it's what insurance is for - and since he's the idiot who went into you...

Have you got his reg number? Give it a try on http://www.askmid.com/ownvehicle/ to see if he's insured.

Did you see any proof of name/address etc?? i.e licence or something?

No witnesses or written statement signed by him you could be fecked, he could turn round and say it was your fault!!

Going by what he said, i think he's going to be a pain and not pay, lets hope i'm wrong

It is extremely difficult to make a car go sideways in order to hit another car. Particularly if it's done in a place it is ordinarily parked. It will be clear from the damage who hit who.

It doesnt matter if he wants to go through his insurance company or not. Lodge your claim with your insurers and leave it at that. Don't start calling him it will only make the situation worse.

This situation is what we pay insurance companies a stupid amount of money for

I'm pretty sure he's genuine. He pulled out his card with his name, address,

phone number on. He was about 70 something and in a 59 reg fiesta.

But saying that, not all people are as honest as I would be if I hit someone.

I will call my insurance company tomorrow and see what they say.

I'm pretty gutted as I hate having to sort stuff like this out and I'm busy with work.

Thanks for the advice guys even though I feel daft not getting more info

off him and taking photos.

Cheers guys.

Can't you get DNA off your knuckels?......Ooops wrong post ;)

Get pictures ASAP, do diagrams of the scene and how it happened, and consider contacting the police anyway, as he might have been driving without due care and attention

It's all a learning curve. Least you know for next time (hope their isn't one) or if your a passenger and the drive like you now is unsure.

Years ago I opted to not go through insurance and pay for the damage. It can be expensive as you need to think about the costs of a hire car. I let the driver sort is own repair garage as it's his car not mine.

I have just checked on the website given above to see if he is insured and he is.

Well, that car has insurance on it.

I will take photos in the morning and print off a google earth image and draw where

the two cars were at the time.

It was a right turn at a major cross road with both lanes being able to turn right.

I was in the left lane turning right. He was in the right lane.

We both turned right and I was SLIGHTY in front but he sped up, turn into my lane and hit my door

sending us into the kerb.

It was DEFINATLY 100% his fault.

I can't believe he didn't see us as I was slightly in front of him.

My offside mirror was bent forwards so he obviously came from behind as he hit me.

It was a terrible bit of driving on his part.

My misses was going nuts in my car so I told her to stay put.

My daughter was ok and pretty un-aware of it.
