Effect of factory optional extras on insurance premium

Featured Replies

As I said why would bluetooth, maxidot and heated seats make my car more desirable to thieves... They aren't going to have an options list with them when they are looking to get their next fix...

But all those options make the car more valuable and so will require a higher payout in the event of total loss.

It isn't just theft they need to think about. Some options will make the car more expensive to repair if they are damaged in a collision.

For example - Xenon headlights, expensive option alloys, extra airbags, anything stuck in the bumper such as parking sensors, headlamp washers, foglights.

Not sure if it is still the case but when I bought my Octavia Elegance in 2007 I noticed that the insurance group quoted in the Skoda brochure for the Elegance or L&K was 1 or 2 groups higher than a Classic or Ambiente with the same engine - at the time I put this down to all the extra stuff in the bumpers just waiting to get broken.

Not really no....They will pay the market value for the car and extras have little if no effect on aftermarket value of cars..

Aye, but I bet you the members that are complaining the most here about all their extras and not declaring them to the insurance companies, will be shouting the loudest to ensure that they are paid out the price of the car PLUS extras in the event of a total loss.

BTW that is why I am leaning towards a Yeti Elegance, it has shed loads of toys as standard, so no need to add any factory extras.

Shed loads it may have, but there are even bigger sheds of extras that are available that any wise potential purchaser would be well advised to look at before finalising their order.

Even if you should consider all these many items unnecessary for your circumstances, I would strongly recommend

that serious consideration be given to the "Temporary space-saver spare wheel"
