coolant warning light?

Featured Replies

This morning, I went out to de frost the car and when I started it, it beeped at me as it was under 0deg and when I'd scraped the glass I got in and noticed the red light was flashing on the dash, I presume this is the coolant temp/level light, the level is perfect and the car runs fine, its only done 25k!! I switched it off and back on and nothing, no light!! Its never ever done it before so must be down to the heavy frost,

Any ideas chaps??

Yep. The sensor in the expansion tank is playing up - often comes on when it gets colder. If you can get inside the tank to clean the prongs of the sensor, give that a try - but you can't do this on all of them. If it becomes a nuisance, you have to replace the entire tank, but it's only a tenner or so. Or you can short the sensor with a piece of stiff wire as a temporary fix, provided you're confident you have no leaks, and you remember to check the level by eye from time to time...

HTH

As other have said - deffo the expansion tank.

Judging by recent posts, I think that all the SEs on here are now suffering from the same problem, with many owners encountering the issues for the first time.

And yes, mine has starting playing up for the last week or so

About £12 for a new tank and you're sorted...

Snap, I turn the car off and on but not happy doing that every time..... am thinking of cleaning the prongs and topping up the coolant to see if that makes a difference, if not i guess replacing the tank is the only option.
