serviced my car today :)

Featured Replies

hi all, decided today to service my car myself :) having a few worries before hand it went very smoothly, very easy indeed :) changed all filters, fuel, oil, air etc car now is def running much smoother and quieter :) altho how long this will last for im not sure?upon cleaning up round the engine bay after wards i noticed a run of ooil down the front of the egr valve, theres a small hole at the top of it which looks like is there to allow for this, allow i never noticed it before so slightly concerned. is it normal?

thanks, jordan

could be a leak,? mine has sprung one too :( If it is a leak then go the egr delete route if you wanna save £200!

edit: nice one for self servicing

mines a vrs too, altho you might mean ASZ or BLT and mine is a BLT. ive had no warning lights so job wel done :) cant see why your waring light would come on, maybe someting to do with the MAF sensor not being connected back correctly? thats if you removed it for the air filter that is. also might help if you can specify which light it is for a more knowledgeable member to let you know :)

no its not a leak as such as it seems to be seeping from a small hole which is drilled in the egr balve on either side at the top, dont get me wrong its not as if someone has took a drill to it lol its def standard as it is lol

everything seems to be on offer atm, every little helps. snap it up while you can

Your EGR is leaking

you require a new one to get rid of the leak....

don't get my wrong it isn't necessary but if its leaking oil its surely leaking boost aswel

all the more reason to why i told you to ditch the egr

;)

would cleaning it out cure it?

My EGR had exactly the same leak.

Keep an eye on your oil level.. it's only a tiny amount but you'll still need to keep tabs on it if your loosing it. It's only the oil from the crank house breather though, I think.

I've just had a 2nd hand EGR fitted and at the same time it was turned down to its minimum setting in the ECU.

As far as I know they can leak from 2 places, the most common being a little oil seal.

It shouldn't effect running but it will make a mess.

Have you noticed a little hissy noise sometimes, when pushing on? I ask because Jase might have a point.. I hadn't thought about boost, but with my faulty EGR I used to get a little hiss with the pedal pushed hard.. it's not been replaced long but can't say I've heard the hiss since? Could well be linked.. the Hiss I could hear could well have been the pressure building up enough to blow oil up and out of the EGR oil seal? It wasn't all the time, which correlates with the minimal and non-constant oil leak.

nope no hissing at all, car runs perfectly, and niether does it loose any oil, always remains the same level :) so i dunno.

Replacement of the egr is about £300! So I'd got for the delete ;)

Try cleaning the EGR with carb cleaner

My wifes and my mothers vrs's were doing this, both 2006 BLT engined cars, and cleaning the EGR stopped the leak.

I dont think the EGR will leak boost pressure, cos its closed under boost conditions and only opens when on a light throttle or idle.
