How Reliable Is Your Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

Just as the name states really, just very intrested to know how reliable furbys are. Should be a good resource for people who are looking to buy one or like me just intrested to know how well put together and reliable the engines are etc....

So please pop down your mileage and what work you have done even the usual stuff people do "cam belt etc...."

Thank you :yes: :thumbup:

33,886mls so far!

3 services

2 rear doors resealed

2 sets of tyres (1x 16", 1x 17")

1 headlamp

1 stereo

1 set of console bushes

1 spoiler reset

A couple of modificationsemoticon-0114-dull.gif

So realisically in the nearly 4 years I've had the car I paid out only for servicing, consoles & tyres, The mods were my choice, Anything else was warranty work, Had it, So I used it!

Owned mine for 3 weeks. 2006 vRS with 47k on the clock.

Dealer gave it a full service with new cambelt.

Only problem was the fan speed resistor needed replacing (spotted it while on a test drive).

They are notorious for burning out. Symptoms are the fans will only work on setting 4 (ie. full blast).

Dealer replaced before I picked it up.

Apart from that no problems to report!

When I had my Fabia vRS I covered 25000 miles in two years of ownership.

2 Services

4 new tyres

Front and Rear Discs and Front and Rear Pads

Only problems I experianced were a dodgy brake light switch, faulty alarm and bushes replaced under warrenty, so the only thing I paid for were my choice of mods services and tyres, and I think the faulty alarm was not under warrenty so had to pay for that, also payed for new discs and pads all round.

Just remembered also had the leaky door seals as well!

/\ Oh had one of those too, Warranty too!

Owned mine for 4 months 73k and done myself 5k.

Radiator leaking pretty much from first couple days from when I picked it up and I also had the fan speed resistor go. These were replaced under a warranty from the dealer eventually.

Looks like console bushes need replacing very soon too. Been a little disappointed. Had Hyndai Coupe 1.6 before, in 2 years nothing at all went wrong ( saying that it was very slow and thristy).

31k nearly four years old

Clutch and slave cylinder due to sticky clutch unable to select gears (warranty)

Rear door seals leaking (warranty)

O/S/F antiroll bar link

General servicing

And central locking fault with rear doors still haven't got to the bottom of!

Bought new in August 2006

120,000 miles

12 services (Incl. 2 cambelts and 2 waterpumps)

Fuel filler flap refused to stay shut after approx 9000 miles, fixed under warranty

Rear doors sealed by Skoda under warranty

Front O/S wheel bearing failed aT 40,000 miles, both replaced (1 under warranty, one I paid for)

At 60,000 miles all bushes replaced with Ibiza Cupra/Powerflex and standard original shocks and springs replaced with Eibachs and Koni FSDs. One FSD leaking (failed MOT) at 110000 miles replaced with standard until warranty claim resolved

At 80,000 miles original front brakes replaced with 312mm from Audi TT

At 110,000 miles the wheels were swapped for 17" Audi S3 Avus alloys with new tyres

In total in 120,000 miles the car has had 16 tyres on it (incl. the new 17" ones) - 4 original Bridgestones, 6 Continental Sport Contact 2's (4 still with 6mm+ tread) and 4 Kumho Ecsta KU31.

From memory I'd say I've used about 4 headlamp bulbs and maybe 2 rear light bulbs.

I'd say the car has been fairly reliable. It's never dumped me or SWMBO at the side of the road and I've never felt like it was about to either.

You can't ask a question like that! Its like tempting fate :o)

So, Im not going to cast any suggestion on the reliability of my motor thats just madness. Make your own mind up.

All I will say its 70k, I haven't had any recall or warranty work.

Its everything still original and 56 plate.

Consumables, its had rear pads but still even on the same disks allround. Properly serviced though and recently had the timing belt.

Console Bushes could do with changing to improve handling which I find is a bit scary at one point in my journeys where it hops across a lefthander and I don't feel I have the utter confidence to throw about til this is done. But thats a small issue on an otherwise cracking motor.

3rd set of tyres at the moment, not half worn yet. (Bridgestones, but recently Kumho for a puncture).

MOT'd with no advisories this year.

I forgot the leaking rear doors ! Just recently sorted mine myself using gutter and drain sealant, works really well.

Owned mine for 3 months.

Done 2,500 miles in it. (car is on 58k now)

So far i've went through 1 turbo, and the radiator is leaking.

It's moved twice in 3.5 weeks now :(

I had mine for 30k miles, 2 years. Only repairs beyond servicing, tyres, and accident damage was 1 dash vent.

had mine two months tomorrow, ive had to replace the egr connecting pipe which blown! (steel!) after a bodged job by MSB skoda in newcastle when they replaced the turbo they decided to hammer the pipe into position as its a very tight squeeze. they led to cracking the pipe which decided to blow when i had it. and just tonight i suspect i have a boost leak. also the usual door seals.

Mines a 2005 on 70,000 miles. Ive owned it for 18 months and done 12,000 miles so far.

Things gone wrong

Blown a couple head lights and brake lights

Rear doors leaked, but I sealed them up.

.

.

.

Thats it I think.

Only spent money on 2 new tyres and a couple service's which I did myself.

Also looking through the service history it did 50,000 miles in 2 years and no indication anything went wrong.

Even still has the original console bushes :thumbup:

Super car.

74k on an 05.

Usual door seals problem...still weeps a bit.

Usual consumables and servicing, but other than that, an absolute gem. Love it, and still looks great when clean. (black)

Original battery discs and pads too.

Third SKODA FABIA

First RED 03 1.9TDI three off side dipped beam lamps

This car was bought new and traded in for a VW by a young lady doctor in FIFE, as it did not fit the image, it sat in the VW sales window for eighteen months going down in price, as the only SKODA in the building (Skoda and St Andrews in FIFE is just not the done thing, I waited and at 20 months the price was down to get rid of this off our forecourt, I paid cash and was a happy bunny, as was the young new salesman, whom the Senior salesman looked down his nose and passed me to :-)

Two weeks in the job slack Sunday and £6k cash in his mit for a car they could not get rid of in 20 months he he he

Best deal I have ever had

Second YELLOW 04 VRS 40K BELT AND WATER PUMP METAL IMPELLER FITTED BY CHOICE

One off side rear bearing and stub axle at 65k (but on reflection I now have doubts about the car I bought and the SKODA dealer now defunct who sold me it, Though nothing to cause a breakdown) (at first MOT I checked the spare and there was a KWIK SPIT receipt for two F1 EAGLES fitted in DOVER, The car was super fast and easy and as I have no idea I think it may have been mapped, and not owned by the retired Doctor in St Andrews FIFE :-)

Third Blue VRS SE 07 Now 37K nothing other than due service and cam belt metal water pump impeller by choice due in APR 11

Car 1 and 2 a couple of "fortunatley" OFF side dipped beam lamps and normal servicing/consumables

Car 3 tyres at 20k

Now it is all your fault if I regret posting this :-)

I always have all the services done on time, by a good sponsor of this site, excellent price and workmanship better than the dealer

My 2004 Fabia vRS - bought in Sept 06 with 37K miles, now done 67K miles.

Items fixed under warranty (end of cars 3rd year)

Rear wiper motor (washer moved with wiper) - car sold to me with it.

Rear Door Carrier leak - again had wet carpets when bought

Coolant bottle - due to coolant level sensor failure

After warranty

Drivers wiper failed

Dipped bulb, sidelight bulbs failed, rear indicator bulbs de-laminating - could happen in any car

Another rear wiper motor.

Boot lock latch - due to me operating it when hatch was frozen up. (my fault)

Windscreen Replaced - due to chip on edge causing a crack (again could happen to any car)

Normal Servicing, including 1 cambelt (no water pump). No oil used between services, although topped up coolant twice.

Front pads, rear pads and rear discs, Tyres all round and now need new fronts.

Currently the rear door is leaking yet again

Mothers 2003 (53) Fabia Comfort 1.9TDI - bought in Aug 2005, not sure how many miles done.

Electric window switches reversed left to right - fixed by dealer rebooting the convenience unit.

2 Dipped bulbs, sidelight bulbs failed, rear indicator bulbs de-laminating.

Front wiper arm snapped.

OEM Front brake pad de-laminating - pad breaking off the metal backing plate

Front Wheel bearing - failed this year and last month replaced both to be safe.

Normal Servicing, including 1 cambelt (no water pump). No coolant, but 0.5 l oil between services.

Tyres all round.

Currently front door lock motor failed and occasionally heater stays on hot.

Both cars has suffered from rear washer pipe joints coming apart both by bulkhead and rear seat. Both have started first time and never broken down whilst travelling.

06 plate VRS owned from new. 51,000 miles in 4.5 years.

- Serviced when it should have been

- Replaced a few bulbs

- door seals done under warranty

- Replaced the front wishbone bushes in March this year

- Changed oil+ oil/air filters every 6,000 miles

- Coolant Temperature sensor is playing up at the moment

- Fuel filter needs replacing (will do this when I get one that fits)

- On to 3rd set of tyres

- New pads/discs all round in March 2010

- Vacuum unit has been playing up for 12 months (never replaced it hasn't got worse just makes noise for 2-3 seconds after switching engine off)

- remapped to 179bhp/334lb ft in March 2009

These are normal wear and tear issues that you will have on any car. The car has never failed to start, is fast enough for me, returns always over 48mpg and I would rate this as the most reliable car I've ever had.

Sums it up quite nicely that does, and the same here.

Weird thing is, that it STILL puts a smile on my face after nearly 4 years of ownership too!

No other car has ever done that for so long.

Can't honestly see me ever getting rid of it tbqh.

That's me coffin sorted then I guess. ;)

I've had mine about six weeks and I've done about 3000 miles in that time, it had ~83k on the clock, so its still early days for me however I am a high mileage driver so I'm expecting things to surface sooner rather than later.

So far I've replaced bushes (worn, standard ones seem to be made of soft cheese), a broken lower link arm, one head lamp, two new front tyres, a full service and had the wheels refurb'd. However I knew of these issues before buying the car and had appropriate discount made. Pretty sure the MAF needs replacing and I'm planning on a cam belt change at 100k as well.

I've spent more modding it, TT front brakes (couple of hundred fitted with new discs and pads), new speakers (over four hundred) and I've a Turbo & IC upgrade coming in December (about £1600 all in). Some of this is preventative work as well as upgrades, not keen on taking a standard Turbo past 100k of aggressively mapped miles, old discs/pads on front just about past it.

As long as I keep replacing bits with upgraded components I think I can stay ahead of any potential problems. Suspension (want better than whats on it anyway), wheel bearings and Steering Rack are the only things worrying me, and only one of those (the rack) looks expensive to source new.

I'm on my 3rd Skoda now. I had a 54 plate vRS which I owned for a year - no problems whatsoever. Then I bought a 56 plate Octavia L&K which I kept for 6 months - again no problems whatsoever. I then bought my current car - vRS Limited Edition No 245! Since purchasing it in May 2009 I have done almost 20,000 miles - it's coming up to it's 50k service which I've booked in to have done in mid December - the only thing I've done so far is replace a headlight bulb. It had a new set of tyres on it when I bought it from the dealer and even they still have quite a bit of tread to go! There's probably a reason why Skoda keeps coming near the top in car magazine surveys - it's because they make awesome cars!

I'm on my 2nd Fabia. The first was a W-reg 1.4 MPi which I had for about a year. That went through a timing chain, service parts, thermostat, brake discs and pads, and a head gasket. Great first car all the same.

My current one is an '05 1.9TDi Elegance (not a vRS, but many of the same things apply). It's on 41,500 miles at the moment. So far it's had leaky rear doors which I fixed myself, and a big, scary and expensive ECU failure. Apart from that (!), it's been brilliant. The rest has been service parts, timing belt and consumables, and modifications :)

Weird thing is, that it STILL puts a smile on my face after nearly 4 years of ownership too!

No other car has ever done that for so long.

Can't honestly see me ever getting rid of it tbqh.

I couldn't agree more.

Given that "my" car is an Audi TT and SWMBOs is a Merc C270CDI, why are we always fighting over who drives the Fabia to Norwich on a Satuirday morning? I'll tell you - because it's BRILLIANT. That's why.

102k - all by me. In that time:

Oil changed every 6 months + new air filter;

Annual inspection;

Front suspension bushes replaced for Cupra / Powerflex at about 40k;

Cambelt change and rear caliper mod at about 55k;

New coolant temp sensor at about 60k;

312mm brakes at about 80k;

OEM stereo failed at about 85k;

Koni STR.Ts at about 90k;

New boost pipe at about 95k;

New heater fan resistor pack at about 100k;

New seat covers at about 100k;

Dragon box from 60-80k;

Remap from 80k-present;

Front tyres last about 6-9 months, and rears about 12-18. Pre-312mm conversion, discs and pads would last about 3 years.
