Daytime lights

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I wasn't sure about them at first, but I really like the daytime running lights on the bottom of the Superb. They really set the car off and give a little extra visibility (for pedestrians, not me obviously). The only thing is, once the auto lights switch over to the main dipped headlamps the driving lights go out. I know you can get the dealer to set the central locking to auto-activate after the car starts moving (something I'll be asking for at the first service), but can the computer be set to leave on the daytime lamps when the headlamps come on at dusk? Since they're only relatively low powered day lamps and not fog lamps, they shouldn't add any additional glare to oncoming motorists, and would look quite good imho. Just wondered.

TIA.

Mines got the option to turn them off, but nothing in the menu to leave them permanantly on. I expect they go out because of legalality reasons for some country or other?

You can programme the computer yourself to lock automatically (it does so when the car reaches about 12mph).

From memory it's in the convenience option - doors - auto close (don't quote me though)

If you want all doors to unlock when you open the driver's door you need to also select the option doors - auto open

Not sure about the Skoda ones, but have seen on the road the Merc / Audi & Citroen DS3 ones do stay on, my 500 ones actually dim to mimic side / parking lights as soon as i switch the headlights on.

It seems to be pot luck, depending on manufacturer, I would be interested to know for when my Octy arrives.

Isn't this programmable computer only available on higher (SE and Elegance?) models? I'm pretty sure my Greenline doesn't have it, certainly not that I've been able to find. When I was asking about programming the car to auto-lock and/or leave on the daytime running lights, I was referring to doing so via the ECU. If the Greenline has such a user-programmable onboard computer I'm all ears! :)

Aha. Sorry. Wasn't aware yours didn't have the on board computer

DRLS are not designed to be used at nght, the hint is in the name "Daytime running lights". Their brightness is such that they can be seen in bright sunlight, so the same lights at night will generate so much glare it will be like driving towards a car with main beam on and very blinding for drivers coming the other way. Some model dim the DRLs to compensate for this, whilst other manufacturers turn them off completely when the headlights are on since its no longer daytime they are no longer needed.

In that case I'll give it a miss, thanks for the heads up. I don't want to look like one of those divs who drive round with foggies on; I didn't think they'd be that bright. Thanks for answering.
