2WD Spare Wheel Kit

Featured Replies

I've just purchased and fitted the spare wheel kit into my 1.2 TSi. I've been thinking about it for some time now, as I never really felt comfortable with the idea of the gloop and compressor. The Yeti is our main family car and the idea of being stranded waiting for breakdown recovery finally decided me to go for it.

After talking to the parts man at our local Skoda dealer it transpired that Skoda don't list a spare wheel kit for 2WD models. The owner of the dealership couldn't however see a reason why the spare wheel kit was specific to 4WD models, so decided to order one on the basis that I would only have to pay for it if it fitted.

It's now in and I must say seriously cuts down on the available boot space. The kit was a bit fiddly to fit, but was all in place within 20 minutes. The covered storage areas are quite handy, but all in all is quite poor value at £250 (inc VAT) for a steel wheel/tyre, jack, carpet, fixings and a couple of polystyrene storage boxes. My old rubber boot mat now longer fits!

It is however reassuring to know that a damaged tyre can now be changed at the roadside.

I'll post up some photos of the boot space once the weather improves a bit.

Hi,

Early production Monsters were all the same, however the MY 2011 1.2tsi's do have a different set-up due to a new exhaust design; this required the removal of the sub floor tool box.

Ouch - A bit more expensive compared to the £55.00 (if I remember correctly) it costs when ordered with the car. The Yeti rubber boot mat still fits if you turn up the rear edge a little.

thanks for that, I see now why it isn't currently listed for 2WD's.

The sub floor tool box is actually quite a handy storage space.

Sorry i should have said "fits correctly".

As suggested I've rolled it up a bit. I was just a bit dissapointed that it didn't fit perfectly like before.

V Interesting. I've been awaiting the spare that I ordered with the car since July (can not have panoramic sunroof + spare tyre as a factory option, so had agreed with dealer & SUK that it would be supplied as a dealer/aftermarket item - and at the factory option price).

I'll contact my trusty dealer on Monday to see whether they'll offer the same 'try it and see'. Fingers crossed
