iTunes

My computer won't let the latest iTunes and Quicktime player download as it can't find a file name or something like that.

All my music is on an external harddrive, so i am thinking what would happen if i uninstall itunes and quicktime player from my computer and then reinstall it.

Well you know your music is safe on the external hard-drive.

So uninstalling and re-installing your programs and get them operating is your next task.

Once installed off-load music back into iTunes from your external hard-drive.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Going into your 'Control Panel' then 'ADD or REMOVE' programs, or selecting "START' then 'All Programs' should give you access to an uninstall area, of specific program required to be removed, once done, re-boot computer to complete uninstall.

Also do a 'SEARCH' for all 'Files' and 'Folders with the name of 'Quick Player' and 'iTunes' and delete them (avoid the 'DLL' files) that could effect other programs.

Suggest do all the uninstalling first, then re-install program/s you require afterwards.

Failing that, save your valued stuff, and do a complete re-install of computer, but this would be a final desperate move.emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

I had a computer geek friend come over to help with the problem, he was here for 7 hours and we found what was wrong. I had a Rootkit virus which was slowly killing my computer, so we got rid of that and loads of other stuff but still can't do itunes as the registry is so badly damaged we have to clean the whole computer out and start again by reinstalling Windows XP which he will do in the next week or so and then will get back to normal.

Hello gallego1968,

Glad you got it sorted, no bloody wonder you had a problem with 'Quick Player' etc.

Good one on your mate, hope everything soon back to normal.

I put valuable stuff onto CD disc, in the event of what you have just gone through.

I had some type of virus some months ago, but luckily my Windows XP was a partition of my Apple Leopard computer, and simply shut-it down

and re-opened it again.

It took a while to complete, but cured problem.

Cut my teeth on Windows XP laptop, what I first owned, great system but alas it's Windows XP is 32bit and it's days are numbered,

unlike the 64 bit version, which is still going strong.

Enough of my woe's, good luck for the future.emoticon-0148-yes.gif
