Problem with ABS/Traction Control

Featured Replies

Hello

Had my 05 plate Octy II for 2 and a half years now and all is great apart from one thing. A couple of times now the traction control and abs light come and stay on. I have had this fixed the once and was told it was a faulty sensor which they replaced. It has come on a couple of times since but has gone off again when I turn the engine off and on.

4 or 5 months ago I had my tyres changed and it has been ok up until now. On slightly wet days I go around small roundabout on my estate and the traction comes on for a split section and then goes off. I am only going approx 15mph. On my way to work there are quite a few roundabouts and this happens about 3 times on the way to work every day. Hubby says it is must be the way I am driving but something definately doesn't feel right with the car.

Anyway, this morning it happened again just after I left me housing estate. But this time the abs and traction control light came on and stayed on. I pulled over with my hazards on and turned the engine off and on and it cleared it. I now have the feeling in the back of my mind that I do not have full control of the car.

When both lights come on and stay on, a light on the panel by the temperature controls also comes on. Think its ASR or something similar.

It has only been happening for the past month but seems to be every day now. Tyre pressures are all ok by the way.

One other thing is when I had my tyres done they said my wheels were buckled because of potholes and made it hard to balance them. Blinking Council!. Could this be causing it?

Is this something serious?

Sounds like it is worth getting it checked by a dealer.

Interestingly, I had an intermittent ESP fault on start-up which I mentioned to the dealer when in for a service. They checked it out and replaced the battery as it wasn't holding charge (one year old car), and this was causing the intermittent warnings.

Your really need to get fault codes read. It could be many things.

Buckled wheels can cause a problem, as can low battery voltage - or it could be a sensor giving a low output. Without fault codes its all guesswork.

Thanks

I really can't afford to have the fault codes read at the moment. But if I knew they problem I could them save for the repair...........
