vRS ordered!

Featured Replies

Yeah I'm aware of those maps, reckon it is worth waiting awhile tho to see if there are any reliability issues etc. The 1.4 TSI in 180bhp form seems like a pretty highly strung motor as it is......

Might be tempted with an exhaust tho as on my test drive thought the standard one sounded slightly poor :smirk:

Coments like this wind me up :S Do you really think VW would develop an engine that couldn’t easily handle standard power..? They haven’t just grabbed a standard 1.4 and bolted on a charger and turbo you know. The pistons and con rods etc will all be uprated along with a completely different compression rate compared to a standard NA 1.4 engine. They were developed from scratch to handle high boost levels. The VW racing 1.4TSi is tuned to 280BHP and doesn’t seem to have any issues.

I’ve been running my Revo for 9k miles now and the car has not skipped a beat. With regards to a VRS not keeping with an ST.. You’d be surprised, at non licence loosing speeds you won’t be far off. With a Stage 1, different story, the stronger longer pull at the top of the rev range will give you a 0-60 time at worst of 5.5 and at best 5.0 seconds without some serious mods could and ST do that? Doubt it? Joys of DSG for you :D Stage 1 1.4TSI Quarter mile is 13.9.. The standard focus ST's is around 14.9. I dont know the weight difference between the Fabia and the Ibiza but I doubt its that different.

As a comparison the new RS's 300BHP gives a 1/4 time of around 13.7 seconds.

Calm down mate, don't get your knickers in a twist! :giggle:

I didn't say that the engine couldn't handle standard power. I would be keen to remap the car as you have done, just feel it would be worth waiting a little while until there are more maps available etc and see what the reliablity is like from a re-mapped engine.... Would feel a little nervous about re-mapping and invalidating the warranty on a brand-new car at the moment especially as there is lots to potentially go wrong on it technology wise -supercharger, turbocharger, 7 spd box etc, but those are just my thoughts. I would imagine the VW racing tsi would have a few more mods than just a remap (and cost alot more than 15.5k!)

With regards to the ST, having owned one I can say its a completely different animal to the vRS and comparing standard to standard definitely feels quicker than the vRS. I agree with you a remapped fabia would be alot closer if not quicker which is why I said I fancy getting a remap done. I can't imagine a stage 1 remapped fab vRS getting anywhere near 5.0s in 0-60 run, don't know what anybody else thinks? Don't get me wrong I not down on the fabia, afterall I have bought one! they are both great cars, just can't wait to take delivery now!

Those are my figures from Gti Inters last year, so believe it or not your Fabia is just as capable. There are vids on youtube and results printed on the web as well (One of the fastest FWD cars of the day :D)

Its not so much you that wound me up more last straw and the camel’s back senario. The amount of times I’ve seen it on other forums its winds me up.:p "220BHP from a 1.4, wont be long until that goes pop" etc

I wouldn't have any other remap than Revo for a few reasons. 1) I know how long they spent developing it 2) My local Seat dealer are also a Revo dealer and will still warrant the engine.

With regards to reliability I’d agree with you. Give it 5k first. All the ones going wrong on the seat forum are before the 5k mark. Perhaps it’s down to the lazy Spaniards making them (Joke I love the Spanish) or there are some inherent reliability issues with the engine. You either have a good'un or a bad'un. There have been a fair few problems with engines of late.

Thats cool. Did you see the feature in Autocar recently with the fabia vRS? - fab posted 2nd fastest lap time of the day in a group that included some much more 'exotic' machinery including KTM x-bow and 911 so must be pretty damn quick!

I know what you mean about people thinking the motor will go pop -I've had a few people say similar things to me too :dull: .

Like the idea of a dealer warrantied remap, would be great if that became widely available for skoda (like Mountune + Ford B) ).

Don't think it is online, was in latest edition of autocar mag. Didn't buy it but had a quick read off the supermarket shelf! :D

Wow that is impressive, i’ll have a read of that.

There were some bad reviews for the Cupra a while ago. Think it was in auto express, they had the 0-60 time as 8.2 seconds or something crazy, mine was 6.5 standard what did they do? Leave it in D mode?? They then went on to give the Polo a glowing review and loved the engine and DSG which had previously been slated a few months earlier. They always seem to give BMW and VW very good scores and then mark down the other cars for stupid reasons. The Cupra also had the highest cumulative points over the respective categories yet it came in 3rd place, Clio, Mini Cooper S then the Cupra.

Went for a blast with my mate in his CUP pack clio 197 the other day. Ok mine is remapped and has eibach coilovers but driving to the road conditions he couldn't keep up. I can't wait to get mine out round Angelsey race track next year!
