fuel consumption problem

Honda Accord, Toyota Avensis, KIA Magentis,BMW 5, Merc C, of the rest, they all go wrong, Insignia,Mondeo,C5,407, but the firms will fix their cars, and there's no special terms like what oil did you use, two of them I've experienced, VX fix, Pug fix, but they go wrong a lot more, it's like VW is the Titanic, there are lifeboat's, but it derends as to whether you qualify, where other's are the QM2 where there is a space for everyone, I love the VAG car's myself, and up til now I've been lucky that they equal the VX reliability, but if they hadn't I'd be in a world of pain in a freezing atlantic ocean right now, and as I like those that care for me, my next car will be a Toyota, it would be a VX again but they won't build so a rear passenger can sit in comfort, so it's a Toyota for me as the dealer's do go the extra for you ime.

I kind of agree. I am getting cruel hardship with my superb trying to fix problems after water ingress. The missus drives an accord sport, 08 old model 2.2 i-CTDi. Will be sticking with Hondas for the foreseeable future. Trouble is I love the superb but I just can't handle dealer attitudes to any queries that I have.

Bar excessive rear brake wear the accord seems to be bullet proof, touch wood.

It's a bit of a grey area, you can have it taken off, but this requires a new pipe and an ecu map to stop the system telling you it isn't there, others have also adopted the broom handle mod, this where you take it off and force a hole through it so it can't block up, not sure if this works or not though, the fluid isn't cheap, iirc it's about £300 for a top up, and it normally last's around 70k.

Keep an eye on your figures tomorrow, the urban ones, you should find it has improved to at least 34mpg if not more, this will be because you have managed a full regen of the filter, hence the nearly 50mpg, for a while it shouldn't need to regen and your mpg will be improved, regen's raise the rpm and effectively make the car run on a hot choke, ket us know how things go, it's important for future reference.

here goes with the fuel consumption over the last 3 days on the superb 2.0tdi140.filled up to brim on monday morning with shell v-power:

mon:120mls all urban-29.6mpg

tues:140mls(50ml on a run)-34.4mpg

wed:103mls all urban-29.5mpg

average reading-32.7mpg

hope this helps with future reference.

it's a shame, such a lovely car but due to bad consumption and oil pump problems the car has to go.still got to work in the car till i can get rid,is there any tell tale signs of the oil pump letting go.

Not that I know of, it simply just fails just like that I'm afraid

Yours is very similar to my Passat in fuel figures, mines a DSG though, but I'm unsure of how much that would effect it over a manual car, I know my mates 105 B6 1.9 manual returns around 40 in the town, best I've seen from mine is 55 on a 250 mile drive averaging 60mph, usual day in town is anything from 25 - 32, plus it's very cold right now, you might find it improves once things warm up again, do you use all the toys like heated seats, heater, lights much, these things have an effect as well as they make the alternator work the engine harder, and one final thing, switch the heating to eco mode if you haven't already.

thats bang on about the "econ" mode on the heater adds several mpgs to

mine 1.9 bpz 85 kw facelift model.

also i use the k and n filter in mine which also gives a little bit more to the gallon.

mine is a taxi ,checked today getting 43 mpg around the town on school runs.

john

ps the k & n is the one that fits in the original filter housing not the silly boy racer

type that my mate fitted to his(did sound nice though)

buy a cleaning /recharge kit with it mine as been in for over 80k.
