Sudden MPG drop

Featured Replies

Hi All

I just got the rear geometry done a few weeks ago by a very helpful dealer.

The problem is, since then we are getting about 80 miles less per tank :-(

Is this just coincedence or could there be another issue???

We normally get around 480 - 490 miles before the fuel light comes on but now its around 400 miles.

This has been consistent over the last 3 or 4 fills.

Has anyone else had this problem when the rear geometry has been done?

Any other ideas / suggestions?

Regards

Dave

Could be coincidence - has it been colder up there for the last few weeks? Cold weather will reduce the mpg. Another thing to check is the tyre pressures - they might have changed them and put them too low.

+1 for tyre pressures. If you have checked them lately then the colder weather will result in lower pressure. It's a real killer for fuel economy.

Also I guess we're into winter diesel now which has more guff in it to prevent it from freezing. I always get less mpg in the winter, by about 10%.

It WILL be the colder weather and longer warm up times...

have you had new tyres fitted as well well , this could make a difference , ive seen a slight drop in economy since i fitted my conti sport 3s

Had new tyres fitted on the front when we got the car - been getting around 480 - 490 miles to fuel light on since we got the car a few months ago.

All that was done was the rear alignment and the front tyres put on the back and vice versa.

Checked the pressures today - 28/29psi which is about 2bar as stated in the book - put up to 32psi all round to see if that makes a difference.

Car going back in to dealers later this week for a couple of rattles so will ask them to recheck the geometry for piece of mind.

Cheers

Dave
