Scout on 18" allroad tyres

Featured Replies

Although I'm an advocate of CWTs (winter tyres), only 2 of the 235/45 17Cooper Weathermasters that I ordered turned up,and they've stopped producing for this year!

Plan B: Fit the Goodyear Wrangler AT/Rs homologated for the Audi allroad to some 18" Zeniths from a pre FL vRS and see how they get on. Must admit, they're pretty close especially at the front, but have tried bumpy roads whilst cornering and they haven't caught the trim.

They ride OK too, although they won't be as good in the cold, but I'm pretty confident they'll be OK in the snow.

I'm pretty pleased with how it looks (aside from missing some bits when I quickly washed the car!).

Wow - that's a pretty wacky wheel and tyre combo but it looks good and if it rides and grips well, why not? Are the tyre sizes standard for the 18" Zeniths - worth looking at the offset and overall diameter compared with the standard fit. Those should be a huge improvement on the supplied Dunlops/Pirellis.

Those look great, but what actual size are they as won't they put the speedo out by quite a bit!

The original Allroad had 225/55 R17 which I have up my sleeve as a replacement for the Dunlops when the winter is over (car is on 16" winter wheels + tyres now) Again slight + in rolling diameter but less than the - with the current winter set up.

These are 245/45 R 18 and are correct for the latest generation A6 allroad although they frequently have larger wheels and tyres (e.g. 245/40 R 19). First generation allroad didn't have an off-road homologated tyre, and only Goodyear Wrangler F1 and Pirelli P6 allroad were homologated IIRC.

My wheels came with 245/40 R 18 Conti Bravuris 2s on them so I knew how much room I had spare changing from a 40 to a 45 profile. Must admit that the 9mm tread depth has made it as close as I would have liked. The ride on the Contis was a bit fidgety and thankfully this has disappeared with the new setup which also increases ride height by about 10mm. Still nowhere near the original allroad's 208mm clearance which was useful when wading.

You're right with regard to speedo, but the Kouki "calculator" suggests the difference is only a couple of miles per hour at "60" and is within tolerance. I'll just have to reset the speed chime to a slightly lower speed.

Now, i'll just dig out that picture of an A6 allroad on 17" Proteus alloys...

EDIT Update on speedo: Checked against GPS speed and identical now (they overread normally)!

Best looking wheel / tyre combination I've seen. Fills the arches + increases ground clearance http://ww1.briskoda.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0144-nod.gif

The 1st generation Allroad may not have had a "homologated" tyre but there were tyres designed especially for the car, I have seen them and they look to be a good 'all-season' tread. Sticking with the 17" wheels on the Scout it would be these tyres I would go for. This article mentions the tyres:
